Invisible Production: Miami Left Tackles Blank Four of Four Opponents

Very nice. I've been making it a point to watch the O-Line play this preseason, and thus far have liked what I've seen from the 1st stringers. We seem to be getting it together.
 
Houck is god for thinking to put Carey at LT, and then actually teaching the young guy a thing or two. I don't see Damion performing much better than he did in San Diego I mean why should he. But Carey to me looks like the future at LT.

and if that works out it opens a high draft pick next year to another position.

It does indeed. If there's a nose tackle candidate out there, we could try for that...would be unpopular but we could sure use a safety or a corner in this defense. And, of course, there's the all-important QB position...

Matt Leinart if we suck really bad this year, maybe Omar Jacobs if we do a little better than last year.
 
The difference in the starting OL between the first and most recent game has been remarkable. Considering that Houck deemed the OL still 10 games or so away from being "good", I am excited to see how they do as the season progresses.

Overall protection is already so much better than it was all of last year and there's nothing but upside for this line as they mature and gel.

you are imo correct, and Chris' breakdown threads have gotten me more excited each week. I think for me the best move of the preseason so far has been Carey, who sat on the pines last season and was considered a bust by almost everyone has now become a most promising left tackle... I find this almost unbeleivable. A friggen fairy tale. When you add to this, the unit as a whole, which was one of the worst EVER looks like it can compete and even dominate time to time it's a miracle. If this continues Hudson Houck should make the cover of Times magazine, man of the year.

I know you remember the grumblings when it was reported how much Houck was to be paid. Even comparing the performance today compared to last year, he's been worth every frigging penny. What's more is he has yet to be convinced that is anywhere close to having this line up to snuff.

It is that demand for excellence that is a hallmark of Saban's philosophy and his staff reflects that standard.
