Invisible Production: Miami Left Tackles Blank Four of Four Opponents

Hey ck, since you have been studying the line alot how have McKinney and Hadnot played? I was hoping that McKinney may have found his flaws with Houck here. Nice post and I am hoping that they can continue to gel as a line and contiue to grow, they looked real good last week, nice post.

It does indeed. If there's a nose tackle candidate out there, we could try for that...would be unpopular but we could sure use a safety or a corner in this defense. And, of course, there's the all-important QB position...

Matt Leinart if we suck really bad this year, maybe Omar Jacobs if we do a little better than last year.

I know Carey has looked good, but imagine if we could bookend him with a player like D'Brickshaw Fergueson. I would love to get a franchise QB, but you dont always have to do it with the first pick. If we are at #1 I would love to move down 3 or 4 spots and get a 2nd first, but then Im always a fan of trading down.

McKinney definitely improved and did particularly well in 1on1 blocks vs. the Bucs and Chris Hovan. It's been steady improvement for Seth since he got demoted briefly against the Bears.

imo the best thing to have a good job done by McIntosh is the fact we can have a solid versatile player in Carey to play another position,RT at this point

For the fourth time in four preseason games, the first string Miami left tackles have held the opposing first string right defensive ends (or in the case of the Pittsburgh Steelers, the right outside linebacker) to zero tackles and zero sacks. In fact, first string right defensive ends/linebackers have made a total of two impact plays against the Miami Dolphins first string offensive line; one was a quarterback pressure by Alex Brown in the Hall of Fame game, and the other was a fumble recovery and touchdown return by Steelers right outside linebacker James Harrison.

I've spoken on the quarterback pressure by Brown in the Hall of Fame game many times. Carey pummeled the guy before he could do anything more than get his paw on Feeley's bicep. And the fumble recovery and return by Harrison, you can't exactly call that the fault of the left tackle, could you.

Think about it.

Week 1: RDE Alex Brown. 0 solo, 0 assist, 0 forced fumbles
Week 2: RDE Reggie Hayward. 0 solo, 0 assist, 0 forced fumbles
Week 3: ROLB James Harrison. 0 solo, 0 assist, 0 forced fumbles
Week 3: RDE Kimo Von Oelhoffen. 0 solo, 0 assist, 0 forced fumbles
Week 4: RDE Simeon Rice. 0 solo, 0 assist, 0 forced fumbles

One would be very hard pressed to find this kind of production from the left tackle position anywhere else in the league.

Of course, we should not get carried away with the fact that our first string left tackles have blanked first string right defensive ends and linebackers, because of course our running game has really only gotten off the ground in two of the four games, and we have run a lot of shVeort step drops and rollouts to keep defenses honest in the passrush department. Also, on short drops it seems we give a lot of responsibility to running backs and tight ends to block the defensive ends.

Still man, I think this should make people pretty pumped about our LT situation, even with Damion McIntosh in instead of Vernon Carey.

Very nicely done.

I think the Phins found something with Carey at RT and D-MAC at LT though.

This could turn out to be a very solid line. Te only weak link in my mind is still Center

Great observation. Now that's the important stuff! When I know what state our O-Line is in I'll know what to expect from this season. Gotta say I'm cautiously optimistic

I think a lot of times these stats can lie, especially in the short term, but in the long run, the stats don't lie. Four games where the right defensive passrusher has been taken completely out of the game stat sheet? That's a trend.
