Seems as though we have a lot of players headed to IR. Giving Saban a chance to pick through players on prctice squads and FA to fill holes for the future?? I know Saban is looking for any means possible to upgrade the depth. Some people think we are packing it in for the season, in oreder to be in the running for Leinart. While I don't think it's possible to do this, I think it is possible to put players on IR so you can open a roster spot and bring in players that might fit Saban scheme for the future. This is as close as a pro team could get IMO to "packing it in" for the season. I see us beng a serious threat to win the division next year.

I hope you are right! I am not sure that putting guys like Seau on IR is "packing it in" but let's face it, his future is very limited in the NFL. Why not use his roster spot to evaluate other talent. I think it's a brilliant job of understanding the system and your teams needs and taking advantage of everything you can find to help the team.

The one IR player I would regret putting on IR is Kevin Vickerson. He had completely recovered from his knee injury by I think a month into the season, but he can't get any meaningful game play in until next season.

Still, one thing about having all this time on IR and not playing on sundays is man if you work hard you can get into some monster shape.

True but im not sure how much time he would of actually seen. Considering Manny Wright hasnt even been active yet and he would be just comming off a serious injury i doubt hed see much time anywayz. Probably best to let him come back next year 100%

Yeah but the point is that he would have been 100% by like a month into the season, his knee ended up being not nearly as bad as they thought. As for him seeing playing time ahead of Dumpy Wright, yeah I think that is pretty much a given. Vickerson was working way harder than Manny was and was definitely ready to play much faster.

I dont know. Saban has said some good things about his progresion and has said that he is only a d line injury away from playing.

Tes, nice to have a coach looking through all of the pile to try to turn up some gems, even for depth. Good attention to detail I think. That gives me confidence in the coach, no matter what some are saying.

Yeah but Vickerson and Wright did not start from the same place either. Vickerson started out way ahead of Wright in terms of being in shape and ready to play.

With 6 games left , if a guy is dinged , put him on the IR. Makes sense and you get a look at what you have and what you need to draft.

REEEEAALLY grasping at straws here!

I think as tough as it is to srperate and win at this level, nothing is out of the relm of possible. Saban can evaluate players for quite a few games if they don't seem to fit, he releases them and brings in someone else. I would, if I were Saban. The Pats won three SB's with their depth more then their superstars, and Saban knows it. One thing that helps me believe this could be the case is Saban's coaching staff, lots of asst. to learn from the big name coaches like Houck. When Houck leaves the coaching staff is ready to continue the ways of their mentors. Saban applies the same philosophy to the roster IMO.

I don't think Saban was doing this when we were 2-1 but he knows this team isn't winning this year. His only choice....build the future.

this one was definitely a calculated move by saban. we didn't have enough spots for all our d lineman. Now thanks to that we will be in great shape next year. Yes i'm saying it was a farce (the injury).
