Ireland believes Ryan Tannehill's talent level compares favorably with Luck and RGIII

Tannehill is a franchise killer

We'll be a top 5 draft pick next season and still need a QB

Wow...if Ireland thinks it so it must be. I put 100% trust in a GM that has had a role in bringing in Henne, White, Moore and Garrard. I can see the Tannehill statue right next to Marino's now.

Same level as Luck and RG3...

I can't believe this is a forum for dolphin fans. Do any of you pay attention? RGIII was projected to be a third round pick before the start of the season but he had a hell of a year and instead he went #2 overall. Give Tannehill time to develop before you proclaim him a bust or not worthy of the #8 overall pick. Like any of you know how to scout a player other than what Mel Kiper tells you and according to him Jimmy Claussen should be coming off a pro bowl year...

Everyone that is so high on RG3 and dont get me wrong i like the guy a lot too> but what did he do his first two years. You did not hear a lot about him until this year. and a little from last year. ANd eveyone want to talk crap because tanny only started a handful of games.

Franchise killer??? The guy hasn't even taken a snap with us and he's already labeled a franchise killer. Enlighten us, please! :rolleyes2:

I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt since Sherman is onboard. They better be right though. Henning said the same thing comparing Chad Henne to Matt Ryan.

And Henne and Ice (Melt) have own the same number of Play off games to date

TedSlimm is correct...Ireland once again demonstrated poor instincts. If he talked with the media regularly he'd have long since understood which comparisons need to remain internal. As is, it's rookie mistakes from a guy who should be well beyond that.

I'm not sold on Robert Griffin as an NFL star but at least his background suggests a hotly pursued quarterback, someone who was considered a blue chipper by top evaluators years ago. Griffin mentioned on the Gruden camp episode that Harbaugh recruited him at Stanford. That was a jolt to me, an indicator that perhaps I've been too low on Griffin's chances. It's reminiscent of top horse trainers who recognize the chief competitor in the other guy's barn very early, while the media is focused elsewhere. Griffin said he chose Baylor to avoid competition with Andrew Luck, who had already signed with Stanford.

Ryan Tannehill was spurned by his top collegiate choice, Texas Tech and Mike Leach. He ended up playing receiver elsewhere. Lots of little questions, points when he's been doubted. You have to wonder about that, would a future superstar fool so many specialists? He's always been tall and athletically gifted. As Michael Lombardi properly emphasized in a Herald column today, great players seldom switch positions. That's the type of big picture focus I rely on, similar to worrying about running backs who redshirted. There had to be something missing, for a coach to give up a year at that position.

Naturally the apologists scramble for exceptions. Nothing hits 100%. It's always comical when a rookie quarterback flops early and the desperate threads show up, listing Peyton Manning's stats as a rookie. The exceptions will wear a hole in your pants and home if you insist they are trivia, only applicable elsewhere.

I love this pick. Simple as that. Kid has tremendous physical abilities, he is smart, and I think we have good coaches to school him up. Haters gonna hate. I'm fired up. Good job Jeff, Sherman, Philbin, and Ross. I'm more satisfied with this pick then I would be with Flynn signed in FA. Even if that meant say getting Flynn/Kuechly.

What a coincidence. i also think that Tannehill is better than Griffin. Not Luck, though.

If you define talent as physical characteristics, then what Jeff is saying is nothing new. Ryan has a prototypical build and athleticism that is off the charts. What dear old Jeff is trying to gloss over is that his decision making skills and pre-snap awareness are not in the same league with guys like Luck and RG3. However, you have to really like the fact that he is tranitioning into an offence that he already knows forwards and backwards.

and not only this ^ but tanny ran a pro style offence which will help him even more .

I agree. I think when all is said and done, Tannehill will end up having a much better career than RG3 and we will be dang glad we have him. Sure he is raw and inexperienced, but for once (in one heck of a long time for the Dolphins) the right QB is coming to us in the perfect situation with the right coaching staff to make this be a successful union.

Would Tannehill be successful here if we still had Sparano and Henning? Nope....would have ruined him. This time though it is different. Philbin and Sherman are just what this kid needs. 19 games as a D1 starting QB...some look at that as a big detriment. Not me...what that kid was able to learn and do at the D1 level in JUST 19 games, playing the hardest position in the game, tells me a lot about his smarts, his ability, work ethic, heart, and his desire to be the best. Hard not to root for him.
