IRELAND: Didn't feel like we needed a new starting quarterback

Well, I'm glad Ireland is going on record with this so that the blame can be fairly administered if Henne flops again.



And in that interview on CBS-4 in South Florida, Ireland made it clear he is putting his faith, hope and trust on Henne to succeed at quarterback this year. That is ultimately why he didn't draft anyone else and the reason he didn't pay the necessary price to acquire Kyle Orton from Denver.

I find this stance to be highly questionable though since it was widely reported the Dolphins wanted to trade up after selecting Thomas to draft Mallett. Also the long and serious flirtation with Orton....................I'm just not buying that he truly had "faith" in Henne.

But either way, if Henne flops Ireland is squarely the man responsible for no real "plan B" for this season.

What pisses me off is they keep repeating the same mistakes over and over.

Assuming Henne does flop, their excuse next year for not drafting a quarterback high will be that they don't have time to develop him....and they will reach for whatever castoff they can find from another team.

I don't know about the rest of you.....but I'm getting a little tired of watching this re-run every year.
 
I think he means that he wasn't looking for a starting quarterback in free agency, at the point we were at in the draft we were never going to get a starting quarterback, I don't find it questionable at all we knew from the beginning that all they wanted was competition, kyle orton wanted a starting role for many years and that's why they didn't pull the trigger, of which I'm glad

I'm getting tired of reading re-runs every day.
 
you could say refusing to pay Orton and waiting until the late 2nd-early 3rd to consider drafting a QB looks like a search for a back-up
 
Typical back tracking that you usually see from coaches, team execs, etc. when their original plans fall apart. I think there is no question that they wanted an upgrade over Chad Henne. They didn't land anybody in the Draft, the price for Orton was too high, now they have no choice but to go with the guy they wanted to replace. No doubt it's an awkward situation for all involved, and assuming this regime does get shoved out the door after this season we can only hope that the new people in charge will FINALLY do what others before them have failed to do since 1983. DRAFT A QB IN THE 1ST ROUND!

You wont have to worry about it because if Henne flops, its pretty much guaranteed that this regime will be gone.

But on the flip side, assuming Henne doesnt flop, we will still have our picks in next year draft... Works both ways...
 
I don't buy it, because he didn't bring competition in. Contrary to what was said by the owner and the perception everybody had from this organization most of the offseason.

In my opinion he screwed up, and is now....much like a politician, adapting his stance to the mess he made.

ie.....since he failed to get a real quarterback.....now he is HAPPY with Chad Henne and NEVER was looking to replace him.

Much like Stephen Ross trying to make the huddled masses believe that he didn't really try to replace Sparano....did you buy that one too?
 
Man i just wondering if some of these waterheads on this board are our FO people.Give the Guy{Henne}a chance FTLOG.There are very few guys in the league,ecspecially QB's that come in and just light it up.
 
Ireland said from day one, going back to January that the plan was to improve the team around Henne, and he and Tony echoed that plan in March. He never promised a replacement or said they were considering it, what he is saying now is what he has been saying all along.
 
Henne will flop... he blows.

No amount of horse shoes and sunshine will solve his inherent Inadequacies

I'm sure you are, However this is a current article and a subject that certainly is of interest to Dolphin fans based on their actions all off-season not matching the propaganda now being pushed by Ireland.

Again, his actions over these months in NO WAY match this stance.
