Just a few short weeks ago, it was reported nationally and everybody on this board was sure Kyle Orton was coming here. There can be little doubt he would have beaten out Henne.
The question to me is whether Ireland has the balls to invest highly in the quarterback position, because there can be no doubt he tried to get Orton...he just didn't get him at the price he wanted him.
that's the key to me. giving up a 2nd round pick and paying $8 million per year for a starting QB is no problem and Ireland had the resources to do it. however, if you're looking for a back-up, you don't give up that pick and you don't pay that much.
