IRELAND: Didn't feel like we needed a new starting quarterback

Only thing I believe is that yourself and several others on this site have an agenda, Henne will never be good enough till we win a Super Bowl and even then some here will be still find something to ***** about. Henne has shown some improvement in this new offense, give it at least a few games into the regular season

Super Bowl?

We could start with something simple like a decent TD-INT ratio and not melting down against horrible defenses in the last stretch of the season. Maybe then we could be looking at something like a Wildcard. Maybe.

Super Bowl? LOOOOL.

Ugh, is that a bad agenda to have? That we wont be pleased until we lift the Lombardi trophy?

If thats not your agenda and every other Dolfans agenda...what is?

How about a decent QB rating, a positive TD/INT ratio, and a winning record? Why don't we start there as a measuring stick for Henne, none of which he has accomplished.

I cant wait to see henne with a new offense. I have yet to give up on henne, dont get me wrong though, he pissed me off plenty last year. Last year i HATED henning, way more than henne. I partly blame henne's regression on henning

As many on here keep pointing out, they do not have time to develop Mallett. They were not trying to do what was best for Miami but instead they tried to do what was best for them. They needed an immediate fix, because in all likelihood they will not be around long enough to see Mallett develop. Many are confortable with this, i find it sickening.
As for Orton, they did negotiate for as long as they could, until Denver pulled Orton off the trading block. Incidentally, this happened around the time team practices began. That was not a coincidence.

Again, Ireland admitted to trying to trade back into the second or third round, and its widely reported that Miami was trying to trade for Orton with a third or fourth round pick. That high of draft picks are not used on backups, period.
As far as Irelands reputation is concerned, all is forgiven if we win. In order to win you have to land a franchise quarterback. If it came between going back on his word(which he wouldnt really have, as he didnt commit to Henne until after the draft) and securing the quarterback position for the next 15 years(and probably keeping his job), which do you think he would have chosen?

Agreed Ireland and company are under orders to win now and Mallet and Orton neither provided that guarentee otherwise I am saying they would both be in a phins uniform today. Now your opinion on Orton and Mallet may differ than Irelands but since he is calling the shots your opinion is SOL.
Sorry I totally disagree with you on the value of of a 3rd, 4th and probably even a 2nd round pick. They represent no guarentees in terms of achivement. Yea you spend a first you expect a return of a starter, 2nd you start looking at a 50/50 return and the third and fourth round your hoping with the percentages of a starter dropping quickly. PS John Jerry our 3rd round pick is in danger of being cut and the Pat White experiment lasted just over a year which was a 2nd rounder. Ireland was not willing to spend a 2nd rounder on Mallet or Orton or he would have. The proof is in the pudding. We traded into the late 2nd round for Daniel Thomas and were trying to trade into the top of the 3rd when the Pats used their first pick to snag him.
Everyone fights to live another day because that represents hope and if this season dictates weather they stay one more year or not that represents more time Ireland might get the QB position under control and he is gambling that Henne gives him the best odds other than just walking away from him. You might get sick as much as you want about that decision but IMO most fans here would do the very same thing if their butt or job was on the line along with their reputation as a professional in their business. We can ye haw all we want that a rookie QB this year may have given Ireland another year at the helm but we really do not know if Ireland had that luxury. Ross may have demanded win or else.
I am skeptic that they can pull it off by the way but am hopeful.
Daboll is spreading it around more than I expected at least that is my impression which should be a good thing.
Henne appears to be a bit more loose with his playing style which I believe can improve his game.
On the downside Henne did not stick it in the endzone yet which is a carry over from last year.
I am still concerned about the running game and feel like we need a veteran on the team that can slam the ball in the end zone.
OLB concerned me last year and still does this year especially if Wake gets hurt.

Well, I'm glad Ireland is going on record with this so that the blame can be fairly administered if Henne flops again.

I find this stance to be highly questionable though since it was widely reported the Dolphins wanted to trade up after selecting Thomas to draft Mallett. Also the long and serious flirtation with Orton....................I'm just not buying that he truly had "faith" in Henne.

But either way, if Henne flops Ireland is squarely the man responsible for no real "plan B" for this season.

What pisses me off is they keep repeating the same mistakes over and over.

Assuming Henne does flop, their excuse next year for not drafting a quarterback high will be that they don't have time to develop him....and they will reach for whatever castoff they can find from another team.

I don't know about the rest of you.....but I'm getting a little tired of watching this re-run every year.

Wow you flopped to "IF" from he will flop

Not at all, just giving Ireland the benefit of a doubt for the sake of discussion in regards to his comments.

I want Henne to succeed and hopefully eat crow about this, nothing would make me happier.

I want to give Ireland a little credit for not caving to "fan demands." At this point I'm not so sure Orton would have been much of an upgrade, certainly not worth a 2nd. Now, ignoring the position in the draft yet again is a different story. We need to have an insurance policy if/when Hennebot flops.

Especially at the reported demand of a second, a DL starter, and eleventy billion dollars. Who did they think they were, Andy Reid?

More evidence that Jeff Ireland still doesn't understand what it takes to win in this league

I agree, my biggest disapointment was not coming out of this draft with Mallett when he was sitting there for the taking. I'm not a real big fan of taking other teams trash. However, contrary to the re-writers of history, this organization clearly gave the impression that they would bring real competition in for Henne, and they failed too. And for Ireland to now sidestep and try to claim he never wanted to replace Henne is disenjenous. Either that, or he pretended to go thru the motions to satisfy the owner's earlier demands and never really did want to replace him.

I'm not sure which position would bother me worse, but I think I'd be more concerned if he actually believed Henne was good enough for this franchise.

Which is what this article is suggesting.

But on the flip side, assuming Henne doesnt flop, we will still have our picks in next year draft... Works both ways...

I am grateful these 2 weren't dumb enough to trade away any picks...my hope and assumption however is that ross told them they were not able too...

Forget superbowl. At this point id be happy to win ONE playoff game.

What do you expect him to say at this point? As of today they didn't wnat a new HC or new QB but we all know that isn't true.

We don't "all" know that...which is obvious if you read all the posts...apparently the kool-aid wipes out parts of your memory.
