IRELAND: Didn't feel like we needed a new starting quarterback

We should have taken Mallet. But I'm not going to harp about it, because I have a feeling we'll be saying that for the next ten years.

We don't "all" know that...which is obvious if you read all the posts...apparently the kool-aid wipes out parts of your memory.

We do know that, you can pretend you don't but it's pretty easy to figure it out.

Well it is just perception and media speculation that drove the idea that Ireland wanted a different QB starting for this team.

People wanna critiscize Ireland saying he is backpedalling, fine you can. But that is just opinion and nothing more. Heavily driven by media speculation.

The FACTS that we know are simple. Ireland made no real attempt to acquire a QB in the draft. Which would indicate that he either believed in giving Henne another shot, or he felt no QB was worth taking this year.

The other fact is that the only QB he really pursued was Kyle Orton. Raise your hands if you believe a quality starting QB is worth a 2nd and a D-lineman. I think everyone in here should and would pay that amount for a quality starting QB. What we know is that Ireland didn't feel he was worth it.

So we now know that Ireland only targetted 1 QB to possibly replace Henne and didn't draft a QB.

What would that imply? Ireland never seriously tried to upgrade our starting QB position. Which would then imply that he is not backtracking or pedalling but in fact being honest.

We as fans believed the media hype about this QB change. Meanwhile, Ireland did nothing to really suggest that this media hype was warranted. It turns out Miami never made an offer to Orton or to Denver for his services if I am not mistaken. If he did it wasn't a serious offer one would make for a starting QB.

So, taking away FANS/EXPERTS and media speculation, nothing Ireland did indicated he truly was trying to get a starting QB to replace Henne. Only inquired about potentially getting Orton.

So his actions would indicate he was willing to stick it out with Henne

Wiling or not, credible sources said we wanted Locker or Ponder......and that he tried to trade up for Mallett in day 2 of the draft.

If you believe now he wasn't trying to replace Henne, you probably believe everything politicians tell you as well.

Lol maybe we did try to trade up for mallet, but if we really wanted him, don't you think we would've drafted him instead of DT? it tells me they valued a RB more than a 2nd or 3rd string QB, and if they were trying to trade up for him, it was to what they considered a bargain price for mallet.

Credible sources also said Miami was gonna sign Bradshaw and a trade for Orton was imminent. Are we supposed to pick and choose when it's convenient that these sources know what they are talking about?

You say we tried to trade up for Mallet, yet we traded up for Daniel Thomas first. Not alot of interest in Mallet when you trade up for someone else first huh?

I find it funny you say I believe politicians, yet you seem to believe what people wrote, say and theorize rather then actually paying attention to Ireland's actions

I tend to believe Politicians voting records over what they say. Just like I pay attention to GM'S actions not what columnists and experts theorize and say might happen

There is no such thing as an anonomous credible source. If the source is credible, they will say who they are.

He lucked out getting Tony Romo as an undrafted free agent and just expect to find another without expending a high draft pick.

What has this regime done in the last 4 years that suggests they place a premium on the quarterback position?

According to you just yesterday quoted that a 3rd or 4th round pick used on a QB would have indicated that they were trying to replace Henne. Why in the heck after Ireland has spent 2 second round picks at the position would "you" believe that a 3rd or 4th round would indicate that Henne was being replaced. Taking your theory to the next level those 2 second round picks that Ireland has used suggests that they were serious about the position because we all know that a 2nd round pick has much more value than the 3rd and 4th. If you ask most fans here 3rd and 4th round picks are used for backups at the QB position for insurance and a bit of competition for the starter. Yea Henne may need to be replaced but Ireland does not agree with you.

sorry you are only allowed to use 1st round picks on QBs everyone knows that. any QB drafted after the 1st round is going to have a ****ty career. (/sarcasim)

Which is why, at least from a quarterback evaluating standpoint, Ireland is highly questionable still.

The owner himself said Henne would have competition, this was shortly after the whole "No I wasn't trying to replace Sparano, he was my guy all along" episode.

Re-write history all you want, The actions of Ireland...ie at a minimum trying real hard to trade for Orton(who would have supplanted Henne without a doubt).....says it all.

He is simply trying to defend where he is at with the QB position today, meanwhile I'm sure praying Henne pulls him out of this one.

I am not rewriting anything. Competition is not replacing. They did sign Moore.

I am not the one rewriting anything. You are trying to make something out of nothing.

They pushed so hard for Orton they never made a serious offer to get him. Yeah they really tried hard there.

I am sorry if the facts contradict your personal opinion of Ireland and the Phins front Office.

You would think if they seriously, or minimally tried to replace Henne they would do more then inquire about Orton with all the options out there.

You can try to say everyone else is rewriting or believing stuff. But the fact remains, you are the ones who jumped on the medias bandwagon, and chose to not pay attention to the GM'S actual actions which actually turned out to be nothing serious, or at the most inquired about a QB
