Ireland "I have plans to keep Jake Long for a long time"

I know a LT shouldn't be paid a lot, but he's too good to lose.

jake will play his entire career in miami, retire a fin and be inducted into the ring of honor soon after.

Well Ireland would like to keep him for a long time, but he also isn't going to say something that would make other teams think he will throw Long away for nothing. So this was the perfect answer Ireland can give. If other teams call to try to trade for him, they will know it will be an expensive trade and that we won't be getting rid of him just because we drafted a tackle.

The only reason he even has to answer this question is because Mike Berardino from the Sun-Sentinel is trying to start crap...again. He's trying to pull an Alex Marvez and come up with sensational stories to try and get a bigger gig somewhere else.

Haha I wasn't worried for a second...media sucks. Like I said in the other thread speculating his words about working in every teams system...all it means is JAKE BE A BEAST

Teams trying to build for the future are not gonna get rid of the best LT in the game who is young and a guy they drafted himself. Jeff will do everything in his power to keep Long a Dolphin.

The rumours of trying to move Jake because of the Martin pickup are just examples of extremely irresponsible sports journalism. Which seems to be the only kind there is nowadays.

Anything would be strange. He is one of the best LT's in the league. Get Wake a deal soon and im actually pretty happy :d-day:

i love the martin pick, to me it shows they value every position on the line. for years we've had to hear posters go on and on about a stop gap filling in at RT, that somehow a late rnd pick up or UDFA was sufficient. this move tells me that sherman and co. feel the offensive line, as a whole, is a huge question mark (which it is)... and that the team is ready to address this problem 100%. how many times did we have to read people spouting out their opinions about how any pick sniffing the 3rd round range would be a huge over reach when it comes to fixing the position? that somehow, we would make chicken salad from the chicken **** we've been scraping up in rnds 6 and 7? as for the Long/contract year reference, it is what it is. He is currently the highest paid Dolphin, entering a contract year. Lets hope him and Wake can renegotiate their deals giving us wiggle room for the future.

This should definitelly stop the speculation. Big J is going to stay!

I hope this comes as a semi wake up call to Jake Long. He has made a HUGE mount of money, he needs to cut us some slack in his 2nd contract.

That is when a player is supposed to make his big money, Jake Long came into the NFL making huge money.

We just filled the LT position.

Jake Long is pricing himself out of a job. Jake Long is one of the last of the super costly rookies before the new rookie pay scale kicked in. That is a dead time for the NFL now and so are those 1st contracts. I'd try to trade almost anyone i had on my team that still had one of those overpriced contracts.

And now he will want more because no one accepts less or the same amount.

We could draft RT Zebrie Sanders today and I'd trade Jake Long in a heartbeat for a early 1st round pick plus maybe a player at a need position. .

J Martin is making 1/5 of what J Long makes and Long is not 2-3 times better.

We did not know that we could of drafted J Martin so we could not have traded him before the draft. If we did, our chances of getting a very good LT would have been poor.

Like it or not the Dolphins are in a semi rebuilding mode so we need to look at the future and that is not paying ANYONE $12-15 million a year who plays on the OL.

For a guy who isn't much better than a rookie from Stanford, how can you advocate signing him at all?
