I always thought it was weird Jake Long left because he didn't like Ireland. I mean, how much would a player have to interact with the GM on a daily basis anyway? Not much, I'd guess. Now that the Wells report has come out, I started thinking, who does a lineman have to hang out with? I wouldn't be surprised if it eventually came out that Long didn't feel at home with a trio of thugs plus a guy who couldn't stand up for himself. Doesn't really make for a comfy work environment, you know?

Just some speculation on my part.

if that were the case, why be a weasel and leave? why not stick around, be with the team that took you 1st overall, and be a leader. stop the madness. he would have had the power to do that, as i'm sure every lineman in that locker room looked up to him. with maybe the exception to richie. lol

Sure, he could be a leader. But he's not a god. He can't change what people are.

Anyhow, the greater point is, why should he stay in a toxic situation? He didn't owe the team anything and he had another pretty good offer.

Long would have had interaction with Ireland regarding the negotiation of his contract.....likely through his agent.

When someone says connect the dots, I think and wonder what brand of tinfoil they prefer for their heads

After Another injury this year, I am thankful we didn't commit long term to Jake. Clearly we could have used him this year, but long term Ireland made the right call.

long left because of injury and money thats it

Long left because he felt undervalued by Ireland. It wasn't until he had an offer from St. Louis that he felt the Dolphins began negotiating in earnest. Eventually, it was rumored the Dolphins actually offered more guaranteed money, but the damage was done.

We don't have Long, we don't have a left tackle, and we used three high draft choices on qb's. Long was the wrong choice.

There are many views on the subject, but let's not fool ourselves for a second: with Long, we're in the playoffs last year (and no, he's certainly not a bust)

We made him a very fair offer considering his actual performance, Yes it turns out Sparano turned him into a China Doll but them's the breaks. It didn't turn out awful for us.

If we are playing the speculation game... maybe...

1) the toxic club house scared Peyton away
and 2) prompted Ryan Clark to run his mouth about no one wanting to come to Miami?
