Ireland: Please Extend Vern Carey's Contract

This needs to get done. I don't care when, but do it. Long, Smiley, Saetele, and Carey are all young. Let's find another guard and keep these dudes together as long as possible. Here are their ages:

Jake Long: 23
Smiley: 27
Satele: 24
Vern Carey: 27

We could realistically keep this unit together for 5 years! That would be a coup!
 
If Carey is not extended during the Season he will be Franchised.That would give us another year to strike a deal. I think he could moved to LG or RT and since Jake is gonna be playing LT and if Carey is moved to RT then we willgive RT contract. He will also come with hometown discount his Miami grown and will probably want to stay playing here since his family lives here.
 
If indeed he is given an extension, miami would probably be producing the AFC's Left and Right Tackles for the Pro Bowl within a couple of years. Careys already Pro Bowl caliber once hes at his natural RT position, we just have to wait and see Longs production in the NFL

It will be hard to pay him the average of the top 5 paid OL in the league.. Which I am sure are now going to be Long and Thomas. Is he worth roughly 10 million for a year?

We need to get him an extension. I would say he is the priority
 
Good thread. I agree, this is a must now that Long is signed up. This should be the Front Office's main priority between the draft and the start of TC.

Hopefully since he has spent his entire life in Miami, he will want to stay.
 
I would love a deal to get done, but if it doesnt he will be Franchised no worries.... Also expect Carey to wanna stay his whole Family is here in Miami and he is their corner stone. Ireland did resign Bell & Lehan so he knows quality. I think Carey will be given an extension.

Thatn would be great. The road to the Superbowl starts in the trenches. If we have this unit together for 5 years, no doubt in my mind we can make it to the big dance within that time frame.

For the record, who is currently our other gaurd???
