Ireland twice on WQAM

I was a youngster when my dad took me to the FIRST Dolphin game friend. I saw Joe Auers kickoff return in person.

That's terrific. I wonder how many members of this site can say that? Not me. I don't remember attending games with my parents prior to '68.

Otherwise, Jeff Ireland doesn't impress with a self-preservation tour. Handing out cookies at WQAM fits right in with drafting Ryan Tannehill to shed a theme and buy a couple of years.

If he doesn't draft Tannehill, others will rip Ireland for me, so it's win-win.

Here's hoping Jeff has a fantastic draft and the Fin's go on to great things.

Ireland has said since the day the 2011 season ended that QB and upgrading the QB position is a priority for this team. If he passes on a QB in rounds 1 and 2, then he is either clueless, a liar, or lost and confused. And I think his time in Miami will end after the upcoming season.

You cannot add old, broken down David Gararrd and have no QB under contract for 2013 as you enter this season and think you have "upgraded the QB position."

Never said woohaa but he DOES need a great draft and as GM his job depends on it in my humble opinion. i wish him well but if he screws this up he should be held accountable .

Illogical posts!

IRELAND can give interviews now because he KNOWS his butt is SAFE. If MIAMI goes 6-10 or worse, he'll be in big trouble, no matter how well MIAMI does in the Draft according to every "expert" in God's holy creation. But a TOTALLY LOUSY Draft, coupled w/MIAMI's going deep into the Playoffs, will NOT get IRELAND fired, especially if the players who carried/helped carry MIAMI to victory are named M MOORE, R BUSH, C CLAY, M POUNCEY (Pro Bowl), etc., and Coach PHILBIN. On the contrary, it'll get him a salary hike and extension!

Why? Simple, especially w/a veteran businessman like ROSS. "Winnin' may not be everything, but losin's nothing". (V Lombardi) And winning is what will put Dolfans in ALL of those seats at ridiculously high prices, and also get them to PAY ridiculously high prices for greasy hot dogs and warm beer, while risking getting malignant Malanoma from MIAMI's tropical sun! No celebrity, and not even the World's hottest Cheerleaders (i/m/o)wiggling their a**es and jiggling their Hooters, can do THAT. WINNING can! Repeat, WINNING.

And IF you dislike IRELAND, too bad. Imagine how much worse you'd feel if MIAMI had won the SB last year! IRELAND would be the President of the Untited States, SPARANO would be the Vice-President and "a heartbeat away", DABOLL would be the Speaker of the House, and freakin PARCELLS would be the Secretary of Defense!!!

WINNING, my friends...WINNING.

Yes, enjoy another crappy season...but feel good about the fact that none of it is Ireland's fault. Just like in the past...it was BP's fault, it was Sparano's fault, its the fans' fault...

So our draft has nothing to do with how good the team will be. Interesting take.

At this point there's no one left to blame. As i've said many times I wish Jeff well but it's all on him. Ross can not fire himself.

I do think Ireland has done a far better job than those before him for the past decade. He tends to get held responsible for the entire last decade of horrendous drafting, when in reality, he has had a hand in the last four, and has had to start from scratch thanks to his predecessors. The points he made in the interviews that I'm glad he made and I agree with:

- Our roster is much better today than when he arrived. Younger, more talented, deeper. Long, Pouncy, Bush, Bess, Stark, Soliai, Wake, Dansby, Burnett, Vontae... we have a young talented core. When he got here, the cupboards were bare!

- Our roster was not entirely to blame for our 6-10 season. The same roster that started 0-7, finished 6-3. Same guys. Perhaps coaching has something to do with it?! Maybe giving Moore a chance to compete for the starting qb job in pre-season, rather than handing it to Henne? Well, you're both gone now, aren't you?

-One do-over if you had it: Pat White. (Was widely known to be a Parcells pick that Ireland disagreed with).

-We are not quite Superbowl caliber yet, but we are moving in the right direction. We have a few specific needs that we will address through the draft.

-You build through the draft and realize that beyond the first couple rounds, they are developmental players that might take a year or two to bear fruit; doesn't mean they're not good picks.

-Won't be pressured into taking a qb. (Gasp! Not even by posters on a fansite?!)

-Your draft board today should not look much different than it did at the end of December. Love that! These guys haven't played any more games, so barring health concerns or legal issues, nothing much has changed. If you had Tannehill as a late 1st or even 2nd round guy back then, don't take him at 8. If we passed on Flynn because Sherman says this kid's the bomb, then go ahead and take him. But plan your draft, then draft your plan!

you people will dissapear come next October. Thats my estimation.

Good post. Someone actually listened to the interview which I thought was one of this best. The question is will the fans and owner have patience to slowly build through the draft. That is why i think this draft and free agency are do or die for Jeff. Yes he's done ok since Big Tuna left but is OK going to get it after a 6 win season ? Anything less than a winning season will be seen as a failure. Jeff picked the players. Jeff helped pick the coach. Jeff reports directly to Ross. Rebuilding slowly for another 3 years will not get it. Not in this town.

Look - hate to break it to ya but his butt is not on the line
