Ireland twice on WQAM

Good post. Someone actually listened to the interview which I thought was one of this best. The question is will the fans and owner have patience to slowly build through the draft. That is why i think this draft and free agency are do or die for Jeff. Yes he's done ok since Big Tuna left but is OK going to get it after a 6 win season ? Anything less than a winning season will be seen as a failure. Jeff picked the players. Jeff helped pick the coach. Jeff reports directly to Ross. Rebuilding slowly for another 3 years will not get it. Not in this town.

FH trolls have gotten to you - Ireland is safe in his role - while Petersen is at the Ross right hand as a consultant - it is a good sysytem of checks and balances

The owner has oodles of money he doesn't need to have the stadium jammed so while he would like to deliver a winner - the fans will not impose any decision - period - and since he has just started as the full time GM - i doubt that his job is on the line - in this mircowave society of ours everyone reaches for the microwave popcorn rather than the jiffy pop - because everyone wants results faster but the better taste is in the jiffy pop

i respect your opinion but this is Jeff's 5th year as GM. i hope he has a great draft and we go on win every game. The point i was making is no more excuses. Time to produce. No more get out of jail free cards. (Parcell / Tony)

I'm starting to crave popcorn for some reason.

I actually agree with both of you to some degree. I think Ireland is relatively safe for a while because I think Ross understands the need for consistency, and doesn't want to keep churning regimes. Ireland has earned enough of his confidence with his drafts and relationship that barring a total disaster of a draft, he'll stick with him.

However, I think Ireland himself is taking full responsibility and saying it's all on him now. In the interview, he subtley blamed Parcells (Pat White, who knows who else) for some of the personnel missteps, and Sparano ( our roster was the same at 0-7 as 6-3, we have a competitive roster ) for not getting the most out of the talent that is here. But now it's clear that the personnel moves are his, and the coach was his hire. He seems to be saying, "You can only judge me partially on the first 3-4 years because of the restraints I was under; but from now on it's 100% on me, and by all means, judge me on it." Seems fair to me.

Me too. No more excuses. GET IT DONE.

I think there would be patience if it was a new guy. Jeff Ireland has been with the organization for four seasons and i think most people think we're just prolonging the inevitable. Honestly i wanted them to start fresh with a clean slate, but he isn't going anywhere so i'm going to give him this season to work his magic; If this team goes 6-10 or 7-9 season he has to go.
