Jake Long. He is top 5 left tackle according to Pro Football

Well, with our problems this year with our offensive line, and now these news, well, Ireland was wrong there.

Ireland - right or wrong did offer Jake a lot of money and who can fault Jake for not wanting to play for that boob or play next to a degenerate like Richie.

I think that the issue was more of what he was prepared to pay to the big man who had underperformed in his previous 2 years. Ireland made an offer to keep Jake but it was trumped. That doesn't mean that he didn't want him. There is a market rate and we didn't want to pay above it.

Mckinnie looks pretty solid. How much is he making?

for the 99,998,378,342nd time. Jake Long took LESS money with the Rams. Ireland and Miami offered him MORE money than any other team...on 2 occasions!

Prior to Week 1 of the 2012 season he offered him a contract that would have made him the highest paid offensive linemen in NFL history....Jake said no. Then come this March in free agency, Ireland offered Jake MORE money than the Rams did, Jake said no.

What more can ya do? The guy didn't want to be here. He used Miami's offer to get more money out of another team.

Good to clarify how it really was this story.

Please clarify what Ireland was wrong about. He made Long an offer.

The hatred for Ireland is fine, but at the least know the facts of the situation..

The days of putting tons of money into the O-line is pure crap. You should not be paying someone $8M when hes not even touching the ball at any point in the game. Spend the money on people who score TDs. That's how you win in the NFL.

I agree, but you at least have to have a competent OL.

Not enough, that's why he is playing well.....the knock on him is he plays for a contract then has off the field issues.....he is playing well and is a large man but buyer beware......

Jack went to the pro bowl 4 times as a Fin...we should have never let him hit the FA market.....he played hurt on several occasions and never used it as an excuse...the bad thing about FA and the salary cap is you over pay for someone else's trash and want a home town discount from your own guy....I think Ireland got too cute and wanted Jake to see the FA market was not as lucrative as he may have thought, which it wasn't, but it soured Jake on Ireland which I can't blame him and he took less money to play elsewhere.....sounds like something I would have done, its principal.....

You spend the 8 million yr on a guy who is protecting the guy who is making 12 million a yr........LT is the 2nd most important position on a team, his job is to protect you're QB blind side....the league is a passing league now, RB score TD and they are getting less relevant each yr, just the elite make money and keep their job yr to yr....

He should have signed him before he went on the free agent market. IreIand was planning on letting him go. Just so happens that he stayed on the market so long that we had another shot at him, which he blew also. I cant believe we gave up the 1st overall draft pick...and now we have to spend another 1st to try to get a replacement.
