I believe Jeff Ireland will be retained, regardless of the outcome of the season.

Here are my reasons:
1. He was on the plane with Ross to find Sparano's replacement during the botched Harbaugh deal
2. He has a tight relationship with Ross
3. He did not panic or make any drastic moves in the offseason to save his ***. He was not in desperation mode, this to me, is the biggest clue that Ross had given Ireland a vote of confidence

I believe Ireland is a good evaluator of young talent, but he also has missed on MANY veterans in building this team. He is also prone to churning the roster way too much, leading to many problems on the field.

A few weeks ago before the season started I may have agreed with you, but the more this season plays out, I believe the only way we lure a top notch coach is to clean house completely. Yes i understand that means a rebuilding process of 3-4 years. Or does it? The Jets are a perfect example of how you can go from a pretender to a contender overnight with the right management. I believe Jeff Ireland represents the loser mentality we've endured here over the past few seasons.

Ireland has to go out with the bathwater. We need a GM that makes the right picks, instead of trying to outfox the world by seeing something the rest seems to not see.
 
I agree that he'll be spared, but I don't think he should be.... not by a long shot.


My question would be, what in the hell had Ireland ever done to deserve being on that plane with Ross and completely out of the way of scrutiny to begin with... he's just as culpable in all this as anybody, if not moreso.

Of course he wasn't going to make any drastic moves in the off-season because he knew it wasn't his a** on the line, it was Sparano's.
 
To clarify, I am not saying he SHOULD be spared, just that I think he WILL be spared...

The only thing that will change that, imo, is if Ross falls in love with Cowher or Gruden who demand full control.
 
They both need to go and here's my reason......this is their 4th year together....they've made lots of decisions and in the end, how many impact players do we really have?...we have some solid players but for the most part the players they have drafted have not match the draft position......is time for a change once again.

If Ireland is kept, you can say goodbye to candidates like Cowher, Fisher and Gruden. Probably would end up with a blah coach like Mike Nolan or Rob Ryan.
 
I agree Ireland could be with the team again next year..I bet Ireland argued that the early picks made were by Parcells... I wonder how much Ireland is to blame...Fact is Tony does not have this team ready week in and week out.
 
Let's start right here! Stop calling him Mr. Ross that implies respect and this idiot has done nothing to deserve that! Need I remind you of that lying little weasel at his little round table soap opera? Treating us all like we are idiots, shoveling us feces and insulting our intelligence? **** him we the fans line his greedy pockets so in a way he works for us!

Now the subject of our glorified talent scout with bad manners. He better be gone he is terrible! We keep him and like our OC search last season we will attract retreads and rejects in our HC search!
 
There's not a coach worth his salt that is going to come in and work under Ireland...
 
Ireland will be let go for the simple fact that no one will want to work with him and with the stadium half empty Ross will have to bring in a recognizable coach who will want his own GM.

the jets also retained their GM right? meaning the personel stayed largley the same except for rex getting his qb (which wasn't even a good one) if you get one of these ego-trip retread guys im telling yout hey will gut the team and lead us on another 4 year goose chase. we have good players lets build on it not knock it down.
 
Ireland has to go. I would rather keep Sparano then Ireland. I truly think Ireland has hamstrung this team by just grabbing pieces to throw into a team rather than having an actual plan. Parcells at least seemed to have a plan albeit a bad one. I want them both to go, but if I had to chose I would keep Sparano and throw Ireland into the unemployment line.

Rex inherited a 9-7 team. Whoever ends up here next year will be walking into a bit of a disaster.
 
I want a three way GMs, TedSlimmJr, CK and Boomer

i disagree. thats all b.s. by that standard you crown sparano a great coach and ireland a great GM since they inherited a 1-15 team.

fact is Tannenbaum was gettin knocked too during the mangini era which was similar to ours except he had penny and favre for most of it and pulled of SLIGHTYLY better records than we are now. but soon as Rex came in, and Tannenbaum retained his spot - the team stayed intact and they built on the foundation - making them a perenial contender. most "rebuilds" never work anyway.
