Bill Parcells on Draft Confidential stated, “The GM’s job is to get players for the organization that function in the coach’s system.”

Who trained Ireland to be a GM? Bill Parcells

What’s our Offensive System? West Coast , therefore, no onlydo we need a QB; but we need a QB that can potentially excel in a WC system.

Here are a couple of interestingquotes from Ireland.

On his approach to free agency and howthat had to marry with the draft – “Well with free agency Ithink, again, it’s a process. You have to look at the free agency board and thedollars that you’re going to have to commit to free agency versus what youmight be able to get in the draft.”

Could this be part of the reason why we passed onFlynn?

(On drafting different types of playercompared to what you’re accustom to drafting) –………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………”Certainly,I have some glaring things that are hitting me in the face this year, which Iwon’t get into strategy and tell you what those things are, but I got somethings I feel certainly confident about that we can probably approach here inthe next week.”

At the beginning of the Off Season what was thenumber one thing the Dolphins stated they wanted to do? Upgrade the QB position.

IMO, If Tannehill is there at #8 the Dolphins are going totake him. It doesn’t matter if he isslotted at the end of round 1 or the beginning of round 2. The question is will he still be on the boardby the time of your next selection? Or is it worth the price to trade back into round 1. Wemissed out on Jimmy Graham in the 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] rd because BP valued him as a4[SUP]th[/SUP] rd, but he liked him so much that he called Sean Payton to tellhim that he just got a heck of a player. That’s what could happen if we don’t take Tannehill at #8. He fits our system. He knows the offense not only as a QB, but asa receiver. He has the height, arm strength, footwork, and accuracy. Can he be agreat NFL QB is an unknown. Just likeLuck, RG3 and all the other college QBs. Weighing the pros and cons, I just don’t see how we pass on him at#8.

I can definitely see us passing on Tannehill at 8, Ireland is stubborn as they come and according to him his draft board is set pre combine and pro day workouts. As of the end of last CFB season, Tannehill was a second to third round prospect. Do you honestly think Jeff is going to draft Tannehill in the first purely because alot of the fan base is pressuring him to? We are not in a position to draft a first round QB this year. We won to many meaningless games.

We are drafting 8th for pete sakes! If we aren't in a position now we never will be!

What we need to go 0-16 or 1-15 to justify drafting a 1st round QB? That is silly logic. Nonsense!

Every time I look at the QB position.. I use Dan Marino as the benchmark... I dont want to pick up another Jay Feidler type QB that could service us for next couple of years.. I'm looking to find the next franchise QB... and I havent seen it in the likes of Tannehill or Flynn..

If I was Ireland.. I would study game tape on everyone that put his hands in the Center's butt and try to find that one intangible quality that Montana, Elway, Marino, Brady and Manning have.. even if its a dark horse, sleeper than is not on the radar..

exactly. it's amazing that we had so many people clamoring for a QB to be drafted this year, and because we didn't get a top 2 pick they suddenly think we should put the position on a back burner (news flash 2nd and beyond QBs haven't won **** the last decade!) If you don't have a franchise QB, you draft one in the first round and you keep drafting a qb in the first round until you do! No amount of shiney new toys is going to take the stink off this team until we find our most important piece of a super bowl winning team. The time for "being" patient is over, we've tried that, we've tried second round bargin bin QBs, what we haven't tried is spending a pick on one in the first round.

You want a Hall of Fame QB, not a franchise one. You need to come back down to planet earth with your expectations! Using Marino as the "benchmark" is insane! Nobody will ever meet that.

It's OK if we end up with the next Matt Ryan, Ben Rothlesberger, Jay Cutler, Eli Manning.....we don't need the next guy getting fitted for a mustard yellow jacket! We just need a viable starting QB in this league.

You 2 are acting like Tannehill is going to do something this year and that QB is our only hole in our team. We need to fill up the holes with safe picks and draft a QB later. What moron believes Tannehill is actually a 8th pick? Are you seriously falling for the hype? Who would waste a 8th pick of a non elite prospect QB who won't be doing **** for the next 2 years. I doubt he can even beat Moore in the shoot around. Tannehill without hype is a late 2nd or 3rd at best. Please someone tell where you see Tannehill as an elite prospect developing under Moore lol. Tannehill is no where good enough to make us a playoff team like Luck with all the holes we have how is this average at best QB going to put us at contender status.

1) QB isn't the only hole, just the most important one!!! You build a team around a QB. You don't build a team then look for a QB to drop in as the last piece!

2)He doesn't have to play this year, its ok if QB's sit and learns. Worked for Aaron Rodgers!

i've said it for years now - Just b/c you draft a guy in the first round, DOES NOT make him a first round caliber TALENT!

but dolphin fans dont get it. LMAO of course if we pick up tannehill and he winds up a bust or just "meh" and philbins stay with us ends b/c of it, they will be looking up the 2012 draft and finding some pro bowl pass rusher, o-lineman or reciever and saying "WE MISSED ON THAT GUY FOR FRIGGEN TANNEHILL THIS TEAM SUCKS"

thats why ireland is not concerned with what the fans want. i think he'll make the right choice.

and btw - tanney is not coming in here and winning us anymroe games this year. so, if we have other holes, and there are potential other qbs that this FO likes better either in lower rounds this year or in next years draft - they should stick to their plan.

IT's NOT ABOUT THIS YEAR!!!! Miami isn't winning a Super Bowl this year. It's about building going forward! Getting the QB is the first step.

Amazing how many people on internet message boards can put a draft value on a qb prospect.

So why waste it on a overhyped QB at 8 where we can get a much more value player to fill up a position we need we have more then 1 round to draft with 2 in the third. With your logic we can get a QB later in the draft unless we have some elite promising QB at 8 which we don't. Tanehill shows nothing out od the ordinary we can get a qb later in the draft and see how it goes. We can't be throwing away first rounder in the top 10 like that.

Only "overhyped" in your opinion! Just because you say he is "overhyped" over and over again, doesn't make it true!

Every "draft expert" from Mayock, Casserly, Kiper, McShay...etc has Tannehill as a Top 15 talent in this draft! That isn't overhyped! That is a Top pick in a draft!

I desperately want them to take a chance on a first round quarterback if he's there, but I gotta be honest, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Ireland took Coples at 8, and someone like Weeden at 42, or maybe Osweiler in the 3rd, and was completely content to go into the season with Matt Moore as the starter.

I haven't looked at everybody's rankings that you just mentioned, but I don't think they all have Tanny as a top 15 talent, and I know for a fact Casserly said he wouldn't take Tanny in the top 10.

My opinion is that just because you have a need at QB, it doesnt mean you have to take one that isn't worthy of your draft position. Tannehill is in no way worthy of a top 10 pick. Both of the 2 QBs worthy of a top 15 grade will both be gone when we pick, and the chances are at this point that someone (hopefully not us) will reach for Tanny in the top 10 and Cleveland will draft Weeden at 22. Personally, I like Weeden better than Tannehill, but for a 28 year old Big 12 spread quarterback who completely lost his mechanics every time he saw pressure (not often) to be drafted 22 overall is absurd.

The talent drop off between the #2 and #3 QB in this draft is huge, but the drop off between #4 and even number 6 or 7 is not as great. I wish we were in a position to draft a great QB prospect this year, but the simple fact is that we just aren't. So are we going to mortgage the future on a tremendous reach at QB, or are we going to do the logical thing, trade down and start re stocking this roster with talent top to bottom? I really hope we choose the latter, and I hope we wait on a QB.
