Ireland’s daddy (BP) “What the GM’s job?”

Only "overhyped" in your opinion! Just because you say he is "overhyped" over and over again, doesn't make it true!

Every "draft expert" from Mayock, Casserly, Kiper, McShay...etc has Tannehill as a Top 15 talent in this draft! That isn't overhyped! That is a Top pick in a draft!

From an article quoting Mayock, "Mayock mentioned that Tannehill's film alone might not even be worth a top-15 or top-20 pick." He goes on to say he thinks that's where he will go, but that would only be because some team reaches....like us.

Right, so in other words, we're complete suckers if we take him without trading down. What else is new?

If we stay at 8 we should draft Kuechly, Floyd, Ingram or Reiff.

We are drafting 8th for pete sakes! If we aren't in a position now we never will be!

What we need to go 0-16 or 1-15 to justify drafting a 1st round QB? That is silly logic. Nonsense!

No, but what makes you think Tannehill is worth drafting at #8? Some people are so desperate for the Dolphins to draft a QB, they are willing to overlook that this guy might not be worthy of a 1st round pick. I want a franchise QB as much as the next person, but there is a chance Tannehill doesn't become that type of QB in the NFL and then its back to square one again.

I can definitely see us passing on Tannehill at 8, Ireland is stubborn as they come and according to him his draft board is set pre combine and pro day workouts. As of the end of last CFB season, Tannehill was a second to third round prospect. Do you honestly think Jeff is going to draft Tannehill in the first purely because alot of the fan base is pressuring him to? We are not in a position to draft a first round QB this year. We won to many meaningless games.

Well, Ireland is very 'value oriented' in the draft. If we get to 8 and Tanny and Blackmon and Claiborne are still somehow there (doubtful, but follow my drift), guys that are also needs and also ranked higher in their position than Tanny, then I can see him passing on Tanny. However, a) I don't think that will happen and b) as you said the priority has been QB since, well...forever, but all this offseason anyway and Ross may make his decision to take Tanny easier...

The fact of the matter is that he's ranked as the 3rd best QB, by a long shot in this draft. If Barkley and Jones were also in this draft, and assuming they looked good in the underwear olympics, he may be in that upper second to mid second level...

So, just because he is ranked as the 3rd QB in this draft, doesn't mean he will be a great QB. Guys like Tim Couch and Akili Smith were ranked high in their draft classes too and they turned out to be bust.

lol tim couch was rated the best QB in his draft, honestly thats more of a knock on luck.

Mariono was the fifth QB taken in the first round. I dont see a problem taking the 3rd best QB with 8th pick. Unless one of the 6 elite players fall I dont see what the problem is. We need to draft a QB somewhere in the first round which means Tannehill or Weeden. Same old Same old thinking does not work anymore. We have a new Offensive coach from Green Bay and GM needs to get philbin what he wants in a QB. I doubt philbin wants retreads from other teams. He already said he wants to develop his players on offense.

Listen to philbin!

Ya but my point was just because your a highly rated QB, doesn't mean your going to turn out to be a great or good QB in the NFL. I am pretty sure Luck will be better than Couch was.

I would have a problem with it if Tannehill doesn't turn out to be a great QB. If you draft him at #8, he better be a franchise type QB or the pick was a waste. There is no middle ground on this one. If he doesn't turn out to be a great QB, you set your franchise back for years. Ya, Marino was the 5th QB taken in the first round. Tom Brady was also drafted in the 6th round, so your point? Sometimes its possible to get a franchise QB after the 1st round. There are also plenty of examples of QB's drafted in the 1st round turning out to be a bust.

Every time I look at the QB position.. I use Dan Marino as the benchmark... I dont want to pick up another Jay Feidler type QB that could service us for next couple of years.. I'm looking to find the next franchise QB... and I havent seen it in the likes of Tannehill or Flynn..

If I was Ireland.. I would study game tape on everyone that put his hands in the Center's butt and try to find that one intangible quality that Montana, Elway, Marino, Brady and Manning have.. even if its a dark horse, sleeper than is not on the radar..

This is a smart thing for a GM to do. Does Tanneyhill or any QB in the draft have the presence that reminds them of the grea ones. How is their release and mechanics compared to a Marino, Elway etc? How many of the difficult throws the great ones make look easy can the recruit measure up to? What is their comparative arm strength? No, they should not expect them to measure up exactly. But are they in the same zip code, time zone, or galaxy???

We are in position to draft a QB - in most drafts. After RGIII and Luck it's murky. Tannehill is no sure thing. Heck, even calling Luck or any QB out of the draft is pushing it. Ryan Leaf's saga is the most extreme draft day example of there ain't nothing guaranteed in life.

There is a question as to whether Tanny will or can be a franchise guy. That's exactly why he's ranked where he is, as opposed to being mentioned with RG3 and Luck. But if you rank him with other guys, as they were ranked in their drafts, Tanny is pretty close to the Ryan's, Flacco's, Big Ben's, etc of previous drafts... There was and still is doubt that Ryan and Flacco are elite guys. I think Big Ben has proven himself to be elite... No one knows where he'll be in 5 yrs...then again, they didn't know that about Rothlisberger, Flacco or Ryan either...

That said, most of the people who are crying to not draft him will be crying about how bad a GM Ireland is after the draft if we don't draft Tanny. It'll be the Brady Quinn thing all over again... And those who like Tanny and should we not get him, will be blaming Ireland as well. I think the over riding factor won't be Ireland....I think Ross steps in and tells Ireland to draft the QB...JMHO...but Ross is the one that mandated we'd get a QB this offseason... That's just in the back of my mind, based on some of the things Ross has done in his short tenure as the Fins owner...I know he preaches that he's not involved in football stuff...but...I don't believe him...

Seriously...you guys don't think that Ireland does this already ?? C'mon, this guy for all his shortcomings as a GM, is a pretty good evaluator of NFL talent. That's what got him here. Whether the cards fall for when we draft or whether he can make the right moves to get the guys he evaluates, whether he can sign them to contracts, etc...that's where he's got issues and is still learning...

I personally would love taking Luke...
