Ireland's worst move in his tenure here

every move he has made. would anybody really be upset over losing any plaer on this team. Nobody stepped up at all in these last 2 weeks with the playoffs on the line. As far as im concerned we can replace the entire roster.

I agree. Ireland has not drafted one player I would be really upset if we lost them. Yeah Clay, pouncey and a few are "good" players but none are elite can't live without players. His 1-3 round draft picks should be the nucleus of this team but most of them are mediocre at best.

The thing is, that was mostly a Philbin move. Failbin only wants a particular type of character on his team, and Marshall didn't fit. You can blame Ireland for the compensation of the trade, but not the idea of the trade. A GM's job is to get players that fits the coach's vision. It's clear Marshall didn't fit that vision

He's made plenty of mistakes. Swapping linebackers was a brutal one though. No question dansby and Burnett are aging but he signed two guys who clearly aren't worth the money as impact players to replace them. Wheeler needs to go. Just stick with Ellerbe and try to improve the line backing core somehow.

Ireland had no qualms about telling Philbin to shut up when it came to cutting Incognito.

You tell me why the hell a GM would want to trade a pro bowl receiver? For no reason?? For giggles? Why did it coincide with a new HC hire?

Listen, I want to fire all these jokers, but to pin Marshall trade on Ireland and absolve Philbin of all responsibility is ridiculous.

Incompetence.

Sorry, while Jeffy may suck, there is no way he just trades a pro bowl WR (one he personally acquired) for no apparent reason on a whim... The reason was clear, he didn't fit Failbin's preferred mold of boring ass schoolgirl players

That is something that has been floated around here in these forums, but there has never been any evidence what-so-ever that I know of that getting rid of Marshall was a Philbin move.

There is no other reason that makes an iota of sense. Failbin in company were scared Marshall would ruin their rookie QB's confidence

I agree. And that's the whole problem when you get into firing a coach but keeping the GM and vice versa. You have to think Ireland gave into the idea of philbin cause he was spared after Sparano took the fall. Do we really want another situation where the GM is handcuffedt? Btw That's just me kinda speculating about the Ross-Ireland stuff post-Sparano.

Brandon Marshall has come out publicly and admitted that he has a serious mental health issue (borderline personality disorder) which cannot be successfully treated with medication. He is a very talented WR but his off-field issues include bashing women (especially his wife for which he has been arrested on multiple occasions). She ended up stabbing him after a really brutal bashing. There is a reason why he went in the 4th round. His college girlfriend was severely bashed on several occasions before she moved on.
Persons with borderline personality disorders are totally focused on themselves and need to be surrounded by people who can be totally supportive, all the time. I understand completely why Ireland finally gave up on Marshall. It's not just about what he does on the field. There is a reason why Denver and Miami both let him go. His disorder helps to make him such a dominant player, but any mental health professional will tell you that they are extremely demanding on every person around them. (Henne never had a chance).
However, the good news is that Chicago were able to match him up with his close buddy, Jay Cutler. They feed off each other and there have been no reports of Marshall getting into trouble off the field in Chicago. But beware, he is still capable of imploding at any time.
I actually think that Ireland and Philbin correctly evaluated the situation by letting him go. Marshall is a coaching nightmare:
- Mike Shanahan fired
- Josh McDaniels fired
- Tony Sparano fired
- Lovie Smith fired
When Gruden jokes with his young QBs about the FFCA (Fired Football Coaches of America League), he should have a picture of Brandon Marshall on his wall.

If I remember correctly a month or 2 before the trade happened Marshall had the incident in the club where he supposedly hit a women. That came out after the trade and was a big reason behind it. I remember he could have been suspended for like half the year.

Reality begs to differ. This is par for the course with Ireland. Invest big, sell low. You can keep scrambling around trying to create(and create is the key word) difference between all the transactions, but one word explains literally all the screw ups: incompetence. Jeff Ireland is bad at his job. Thats why he does the things he does.

Ireland is the general manager. He could have told Philbin to sit down and shut up when it came to Marshall. He did tell Philbin to sit down and shut up when it came to Incognito. Ireland made the decision to make the roster moves in the ways that occurred.
