Welcome to the Iron Mike Thread!

Do we have any Tyson fans here? I have been watching his fights lately on ESPN Classics. WOW!!!!! He knocked the poo outa people! His record is 50-6(It's really 51-5) with 44 of his wins by Knock Out. He is in my opinion one of the greatest and should go into the Hall of Fame. What do you guys think?

I love Mike. He's the man. He is without a doubt one of the most entertaining people in sports history. It's just too bad that he was so dumb and let people like Don King take advantage of him and screw him out of millions of dollars.

As for the Hall of Fame, I'm not sure. Before he got sent to jail (on the bongus rape charge) and even after the Buster Douglas fight he has headed to the Hall however since those incidents he has been a shell of his former self. I don't think he'll get into the Hall due to his out of the ring problems and the ear biting incident. I would love to see an Ali vs. Tyson fight in each of their primes though.

I loved watching Tyson fight. He's the reason I started watching boxing.

Im right with you guys. Im just sad to see him retire. Foreman won the belt back in the mid 90s when he was like 42. So I know with the right Motivation and staff, he could do it.

Tyson is/was a thug. I liked to watch him fight but hated to hear him run his trap. He was good when the boxers he was fighting were intimidated. But when he faced a smart fighter who showed no fear and out-smart him and out-box him, he looked lost. Buster Douglas and Evander Holifield out-smarted him and frustrated him and beat him up. After his loss to Douglas, Tyson wasn't able to bounce back, partially because of his prison term, partially because of his mentality. Tyson wanted people to slug with him because he jnew he could take a punch and would land one that would finish them But after Douglas exposed him, opponents no longer fell into the brawl or run for your life mentality that most boxers came into the ring with when Mike was younger.
Tyson's biggest problem was the people he surrouded himself with after Cus D'Amato passed away. Mike was totally lost without Cus and turned to the wrong people to fill the void and that's when his career really started it's downward dive.

Ali would've killed him, and foreman was better in his prime than tyson.

Tyson was an amazing athlete it was just pathetic how his career played out because all of his out of the ring politics. I'm not saying he is the 1 to blame but it is a shame!

Ali couldn't beat foreman without the "rope-a-dope" tyson may have been able to match forman or even exceed power wise, but prime for prime foreman's endurance would've overcome tyson's power.

Foreman in his prime would have beat Tyson. Tyson never really beat an elite heavyweight in his entire career. Part of that was King picking patsies for quick knockouts and the lack of top competition but Tyson didnt fight Holyfield for a longtime and when he did he got whooped completely. Tyson isnt really that great. You cant be placed among the alltime greats when you didnt beat anyone worth a damn.

Tyson would have crushed Ali, with the power he posed and Ali's big mouth and history of standing their and trash talking rather than hammering away. One knockout shot from Iron Mike and it would be history for "The Greatest"

tyson wouldn't have been able to land his full power on Ali, nobody, nobody could move like ali, and nobody ever got a good clean shot on him, tyson would not have done any better than the rest.

Still, Tyson beat 76 people. I dont know many who could last a minuet against the fighters he fought.

EXACTLY.
He dodged Holyfield for SO LONG while he was champion, it was ridiculous. He didn't want to fight Evander Holyfield because he knew Holyfield posessed something that he didn't - boxing skills. Look at what happened when Tyson DID fight a good fighter. He got his a$$ beat. I will never forget what Lennox Lewis (who is FAR, FAR and away a MUCH better champion than Tyson) did to "Iron Mike". He humiliated him and exposed him for what he was - just a loudmouthed chump who didn't belong in the ring with a REAL boxer.
The only thing Tyson had going for him was his punching power. He would overwhelm a crappy fighter, but a BOXER would beat him every time.

I guess Larry Holmes, Tony Tubbs and Michael Spinks aren't BOXERS. He became the youngest world heavyweight champion at 20. I guess that means nothing though.

He was in jail. How was he suppose to fight Holyfield? He faught him less than two years after he got out.
