Is anyone worried that Hene and Merling haven't signed?

I don't want any more drama.

Please let's get this done before training camp starts Saturday.

Henne will sign today as per his own agent a few days ago. Merling though...I dunno...I could see that taking a while. Not sure what they're snagged on but it could definitely have to do with the fact that the #32 pick is a first round pick in most years.

worried about what?

that they will miss a day or two of camp? miss all of camp? that they will sti out the year and re-enter the '09 draft?

If we were a contending team and a player we were counting on heavily was looking like a holdout....I might worry. But how would either of these players missing a few days or a few weeks hurt the long-term success of either the Dolphins, or themselves?

I would be happy if they would sign in time.....but worried? Why?

I think both deals will get done by the end of the day today or first thing Saturday morning.

Yeah, there is still plenty of time to get it done today. They could be dotting the i's and crossing the t's as we speak. I have no doubt that as soon as the deals are done someone from the great FINHEAVEN detective agency will post the information.

I'm curious to know exactly what everyone will worry about even if these guys aren't signed for the start of camp?

what is the impact that would cause you to worry?

Well maybe worried is the wrong word but, anoyed, irritated?
I just want a smooth unevenful training camp. Tough, competitive, but smooth no drama please. I don't like hold outs. They seem so pointless. The slow the players development. Many time it causes their first year to be a bust if it is a long hold out.
That said I do think if either don't sign today it will be done in the next few days.

Merling especially has the opportunity to really have a forceful impact on the team's nickel and dime defenses. On pass rush downs, he should be in there helping us terrorize the quarterback...because contrary to popular opinion, the guy is a good pass rusher.

Clemson-DE University. Gaines Adams last year, Phillip Merling this year, and in the next couple you've got Jessie Sapp and DaQuan Bowers (STUD) coming into the league

I do believe that snag with Merling is his draft position relative to real value. He was selected 32nd overall which is customarily the last pick in the 1st rd. But since the Patriots were stripped of their 1st rd pick it became the 1st pick of the 2nd round. That sweet reality is worth plenty of dollars. Unfortunately for everyone it's a very uncommom problem. It will take hashing out to get this deal done. I'm going to be really disappointed if he isnt signed today, especially with the fact Merling has a lot to prove IMO being injured for most of the offseason. I want to see what he's got!

As for Henne, I would love to see him signed today. I am getting somewhat anxious, but if they aren't both signed by 6pm I'm going to be worried.

and he wouldn't be able to do that if he missed a few days of camp? Also, while I want to see every player on the team have as much success as possible, and the team to have as much success as possible.....even if his growth is stunted slightly by missing some TC, what would it mean to the team in terms of W or L?

I feel like I get into these discussions every year when fans start to get antsy about an unsigned player. My bottom line is always the same: The player is signing a deal that will dicatate his career over the next 4 years.....he shouldn't be overly concerned over the impact of a few practices vs the impact of a 4 year contract.

The deals will get done. the impact of whether they sign today or next friday will be negligible.
