Is Belichick right - Jason Taylor a Hall of Famer?

After the Patriots beat the Dolphins last month, Bill Belichick greeted Jason Taylor with the following words: “You’ll be in the Hall of Fame someday.’’
Is he already?

Taylor is a borderline case at this moment. Maybe he's in. Maybe not. If he plays a little longer, it's a no-brainer. In another career situation - with a contending team - it wouldn't be a debate. The case for him is a NFL Defensive Player of the Year award, 126.5 sacks, 13 years and a player defenses had to gameplan against in his prime.

The parallel player for him is Michael Strahan, the retired Giant who people consider a sure Hall of Famer. Strahan played 15 years with 141.5 sacks. Strahan also played on a Giant team that won the Super Bowl. That shouldn't be a consideration in a team sport like football -- but as these things play out it is.

But let's look a little beyond sacks. Strahan had 22 forced fumbles. Taylor has 36. Strahan had eight interceptions. Taylor has eight.

Taylor, in other words, plays with more impact than Strahan. If Strahan is a sure bet to make it, Taylor should be, too. But the way these things work, you'd like to see Taylor play for a couple more years and pile up some more stats to make Belichick's words come true.

Just for the fumble recovery/touchdown against the Jets a couple of weeks ago he should get in.

i think he will be it might take him a few more years maybe after his 3rd or 4th year on the ballot. 2 bad we never got deeper in the playoffs back in the begining of this decade.
 
Yeah. JT is one of the best pass rushers in the history of the league.

That is just an opposing coach throwing a bouquet at a player in the week they play. Strahan is a borderline HOfer and he led a D to a SB title, you have to factor that in. There are better pass rushers and players that actually stepped up in big games so jason has alot of work to do. He has the DPOY award which will help but he needs a few more double diigt sack seasons to really get in.
 
Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the Mad Dog call him the best defensive player in Dolphins history? If the Mad Dog thinks that highly of him that's good enough for me.

Also, doesn't he lead the Dolphins all time in defensive TDs?

Do you have the some sort of alarm that goes off any time someone talks about how good Taylor is you can jump in and discount most things he's done?

Just wondering since you disappear for awhile but your back to attack our players for whatever you get out of it!

I don't discount most things he has done I just try to inject some objectivity. He's not far from being a HOFer, I think he's done enough to be in the discussion but there are better pass rushers not in and I think his failures in big games prove to me he's not a HOFer. He may get in some day but there are others that need to get in before he does and if he ever gets in it will likely be when he's old and fat and his dancing shoes have been retired.:chuckle:
