In 1979, Bill Parcells was here in Colorado Springs as the Head Coach of Air Force. I think the one year he was here the team went 3-9 and Bill quit and decided to sell real estate for about a year. He gradually worked his way to the top, but I wouldn't exactly call him a "genius." He had some really great players with the NY Giants, including probably the best defensive player of his era in Lawrence Taylor. So why wasn't Parcells a "genius" in New England or with the NY Jets?
I think a coach is only as good as his players....would Belichick be considered a genius without Tom Brady? Nahhhh. Great coaches, like Don Shula, Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry, were great over a long period of time....overrated coaches ride the coatails of the personnel they are lucky enough to have. Remember George Seifert?, the 49ers coach who had one of the greatest coaching records of all-time...he got it from coaching guys that Bill Walsh brought in.
