does booker have the skills to take the #1 spot from brown?
i had a friend go to t.camp and he says yes.
what do u all think?

slow down a lil here...i'm a big booker fan but with a line ronnie brown is a beast...and while i hope booker takes a role of making plays he at that this point cant carry the load but boy he is dangerous in the open field. that boy can scoot

We will find out when pads are on. Right now it is just people saying,

"yes he is awesome"

"No he is too small"

"But Clinton Portis is same size"

"He sucked at Florida State"

"He wasn't used right"

Until the proof is in the pudding, there is nothing to eat.

In a word, no.

Booker will provide some much needed speed to our offense. He will be a terrific spell and can come in on 3rd and longs to try and turn a short pass into a big game (ala Leon Washington vs. us on Christmas.) He can also line up at deep back with Brown at up back for a pretty scary backfield. It'd be a great combination of thunder and lightning with tremendous pass catching abilities from both. At first, I was skeptical of the Booker selection, but now, I love it.

Booker is good, but he isn't that good. He has a small frame, so he isn't built to be a 300+ carry back. He is a change of pace/third down back, while Brown is the main go to guy.

Brown is entering his third season, under a new coach that made LT a star. Brown is likely to have a breakout season(as long as he stays healthy), and should hit around 1300-1400 yards with double digit touchdowns.

I love the Booker pick, but, he is not Ronnie Brown. They are 2 very different types of backs. Cam knows this and my hope is he will put them both in the best possible situations to be successfull.

Hows that gonna happen--For two years now Ronnie has had to put up with all the crap offensive calling. He has still performed well, and would have been a star in any other offense other than our own, bar the play calling. Just be patient for a mo and let Ronnie express himself this year. This isn't a knock on LB and his own capabilities, just a little pep up for Ronnie who is getting a raw deal from some fans who think he is not making the grade. The same fans next year will be knocking Ginn because he didn't run back 12 kick offs for Td's.

Sorry for the rant, I know it was a little off topic, and I'm sure that Lorenzo will be a good acquisition for us :D

I'm a fan of competition for any spot on the roster. I think competition makes everyone work harder and gives a sense of empowerment to the one that finally wins the position.

So far RB has not performed to my (nor most of the rest of your) expectations. For the #2 spot (be it fair or unfair), that he was selected at, I'm still expecting double digit td's or no less than 1200 yards each year. He hasn't been doing that plain and simple. Can booker do that? The odds aren't with him due to his size and his college production. Maybe he can maybe he can't. As a rook, I'd say that both Ronnie and 'Zo will benefit from them both bringing their A game each day of training camp as well as the eventual season.

No one really knows until they put the pads on. Some on this board already think brown is just as good as Johnson and Tomlinson but he has no line. Booker could be the next tiki barber for all we know. Booker was a huge prospect coming into college but its all about chances.

They do the same with Ronnie Brown.
he doesn't get enough carries
He had bad luck
the other backs have better lines.
He has more yards than Ricky williams at this point
He has a better YPV than LT at this point
He has more yards than caddy or benson
Gore has a better line thats why he has broke out
he had to share a much greater share carries with caddy williams'
he ran a 4.3 40
He had more rushing yards than reggie Bush as a rookie
he split carries with Ricky williams

Good enough to compete for the #1 RB spot? Yes...

But it wont be much of a competition...

It seems to make little sense to try to make Booker an every down back when you already have a guy like Ronnie Brown who can run at the pile and break tackles. I said it when we first drafted Booker, he will be used as a third down back and even more. Cam has a plan in place to get the ball to Lorenzo in space to utilize his speed. For those who believe he is an every down back, did you watch him in college? The guy was easy to bring down when in traffic.
We will try to eliminate defenders getting in on him. Instead he will be put in position break big plays and frustrate defenses with his speed.

I agree. i think this has already been said somewhere. He could be the next Troy Stradford. I loved watching that guy.

The only way that Booker becomes our number one back is either Ronnie gets injured or Ronnie really sucks up the place. Then if Booker shined all things would be possible but as of now its very unlikely especially with all the money commited to Brown.
