In his Sports Buzz Barry Jackson mentions a rookie from Washington State:
The Dolphins likely will need to add a kicker in the next day or so, and one name worth considering is undrafted Washington State rookie Andrew Furney, who kicked a 51-yard field goal in the Jets’ preseason opener but was cut this weekend because he wasn’t going to beat out Nick Folk. Furney kicked a 60-yard field goal in college.

Part of me says go young and part of me says go with experience. Young kickers in pressure situations can give you that real uncomfortable feeling.
I don't understand why punters can't kick field goal or kickers can't punt. It's not like they have a lot of other things to practice. It could save you a roster spot.
Since all 32 teams have 2 people performing those roles, I'm going to defer to the experts.
Yeah, I feel the same way about the government. What they are doing sometimes doesn't make sense, but I will defer to the experts.
