He looks awesome right now against Miami and did well last week against Jimmy Williams. I see on ESPN that he's a sophomore but is he a true sophomore or redshirt?

A little off topic, but can someone tell me what the difference is between a "true" and a "red shirt" freshman?

A true sophomore, or freshman, is someone who is in their second or first year of college, respectively.

A redshirt is a different sort of rule. When a player enters college, a coach may choose to make him "redshirt" for a year for medical reasons, or to preserve his eligibility if they have a ton of experience with the team. The player still attends classes and can practice with the team, but can't play in games. This is why you can have a situationw here a player is a junior academically, but a sophomore in terms of eligibility.

Hope that helped.

Calvin Jackson is nasty, sure fire top 10er baring injury.

Georgia Tech played VT earlier in the year, not last week. Johnson & Williams weren't matched up much of the day because Williams plays VT's "boundary" corner, which is on the short side of the field to support the run on the outside, & Calvin Johnson lines up on the wide side of the field most of the time to work in space, but the few times they were matched up together Calvin Johnson made Williams look stupid. Of Johnson's 5 catches, 123 yards & a TD, his #s when Williams were on him were 3 catches for 90 yards & a TD. Williams lack of speed showed.
