I was thinking about the Suh signing last night. It makes our D line better without a doubt! However I do wonder if it exposes Cam as a weak point?

Hear me out... last year we saw Wake getting bullied quite a bit in the run game, now we have Suh they are not going to run up the middle as much which means they will be running at the de's.... Cam struggled last year without a target, what happens now?

Just a thought, its obviously not a criticism of the signing, but Wake struggled with this last year; he is now a year older, has a bit more wear on the tyres and now they will run at him more.

He will be a very productive pass rusher this year, but the run game? Concerns me.

I have to admit I'm one of the people that has some reservation about our DEs. I saw too many times last season C.Wake and especially OV getting handled, quite nicely, 1 on 1 by "nothing special" tackles.

No question he's not the player he was 2-3 yrs ago. During the defensive swoon last yr, teams were controlling him one on one even on obvious passing downs. He (as well as the entire defense) lost steam down the stretch and I dont know if it's an age thing or a conditioning issue.

If he is exposed he won't be back next year

No because with a true d tackle wake will be asked to do less. Be able to focus more on setting the edge and meeting at the qb. Better linebacker play due to Suh's presence will happen regardless, even though we still need that position addressed. Some of wakes most productive years were with big Paul. I think he has a career year anything less than 16 sacks I'd personally be suprised.

it isnt the sacks that worry me, he will be very productive as a pass rusher this year without a doubt

Seantrel Henderson owned Wake pretty good last year. Definitely a concern, but we've got good depth at the posistion with Shelby, McCain, and Jordan.

I think Wake is at a stage in is career where the Fins are going to have to use him more in passing situations and less on running downs. I expect Shelby`s workload to be increased, and at the same time, Wake`s pass rusing stats to improve over last year as a result of being more energized in the situations he excels at... So for me it isnt a concern, it might be an improvement overall for the Fins D...

Wake looked worn out last year. Hell this started in 2013. He did so much to improve against the run from when he first came into the league and the 2nd half of 2013 you saw Wake starting to get old. 2014 he got off to a solid start but disappeared and really looked tired and absolutely was getting abused in the run game.

Jared Odrick would consistently be asked to move over to DE because it just looked like Cam was getting worked.

He's still a tremendous pass rusher, best on the team, no question . . . . but I have my concerns about him being a 3 down DE. I don't think he's that anymore. And when you are accounting for 10.5 million on the salary cap . . . you need to be a 3 down player.

I know he is a hard worker and it wouldn't shock me to watch him breathe life back into his career and have a real great season . . . but if he turns in a similar performance like he did in 2014, you've gotta approach him about a restructure or possibly cut him outright. The Brandon Graham news made A LOT of sense (true or not) because the Dolphins life w/o Cam Wake could be right around the corner.

Good call, especially on Shelby. Started a thread on him mid season; good, under appreciated player, solid in the run game.

Looking at the cap hits, unless he restructures (very possible) this could be Wakes last year here, enjoy him folks!

I really don't understand this train of thought. You're saying that solidifying the middle of our defensive line will be detrimental to Wake. If that's true, then the reverse must also be true: weakening the middle of our defensive line would be helpful to Wake. Does that make any sense?

With Suh clogging the middle, doesn't that relieve Wake from having to give as much support to stopping runs between the tackles? If we're forcing offenses to run outside the tackles, that allows us to get more run support from our OLBs, and since MLB is a weak spot for us, I'm thinking this should work out pretty well for us.

I think Wake might see alot of value playing next to Suh, I mean there`s no doubt in my mind he`s going to get a whole lot more 1-on-1`s which will make his job easier. With Suh being signed beyond Wake`s expected playing career, I beleive he`ll want to end his career in this type of setting... Could be wrong though...

true he didn't play as well as the previous 5 years but i think you got too used to him in the prime. Wake 2-3 years ago, in terms of pressure might of been up there with one of the greatest of all time. Granted he only had 4 or so years of dominance so you can't put him in as one of the best but his performances were up there. Despite having his worst year of his career, he still managed 11.5 sacks and was doubled often. Suh will only help him out and extend his dominance. I don't know if Wake will challenge the sack record like wake in his prime would of but i'd be surprised if he didn't get 15 sacks next year. He may be older but the guy is a freak and in peak condition, just look at the guy and has the heart and drive of a champion. If you are worried about how a guy in his worst year of 11.5 sacks will do, it might not be the worst problem to have.
