The misconception of our QB's arm Strength

With all the tales and stories that stir up within the nfl fan base, a player named Chad Pennington still manages prove people wrong. There have been thousands and thousands of threads indicating that the reason why our offense is limited is due to his "weak arm". I do humbly accept that his arm strength is not his biggest attribute; however, one must accept that Chad Pennington is one of the elite within the league.

In addition to my comments; I would like to demostrate the following stats before yesterday's game:

Top Qb's and their receiver contribution:

Jay Cutler

Marshall 598
Stokley 262
Royal 392

Drew Brees

Patten 127
Moore 341
Hender 465
Maechem 244

Warner

Fitzgerald 546
Boldin 366
Breaston 346

Kyle Orton (not the greatest qb)

Hester 216
Davis 254
Lloyd 249
Booker 183

Tight ends
205 Olsen
296 Clark

Chad Pennington

Ginn 177
Wilford 17
Hagan 51
Bess 72
Camarillo 337

Rb: Cobbs 216

Te Fasano 234
te Martin 233

While Chad is spreading the ball out to everyone, there is a lack of contribution from a consistent receiving threat. Ginn caught 175 yards which is almost as much as he caught this season, so that let's you know how better we are as a team if we have a great receiving threat playing consistently. With 20 passes over 20 yards and 6 passes for over 40 yards, Chad Pennington ranks 6th in the league, so that proves to you that his lack of arm strength is not a limiting factor when it comes to delivering the long ball.

Another interesting stat is how often the long ball has been defended well in the league this season. There are currently 6 players in the league who have thrown the long ball succesfully over 40 yards more than 5 times and Chad Pennington is one of them. This dolphin team is playing smart, and Ted Ginn made a great effort to have the separation needed for our Quarterback to execute.

Stats after this great dolphin week for our QB:

1710 Passing Yards (3rd AFC)
7 Td's 3 interceptions
20 passes over 20 yards (3rd AFC)
6 passes over 40 yards (2nd AFC)
11 Sacks (11th NFL)
QB Rating of 100.1 5th NFL (2nd AFC)

This proves to everyone how important it is to have a consistent receiving threat and if Ted Ginn can perform like this every week then we will be a dominating ball club down the stretch.

It think it does to a point. Im sure the phins see chances on a constant basis to strike deep but cant due to arm strength. It elimates the quick strike opportunity... when a defense wants to get bold and leave 3 men back to cover. Happening quite a bit we are seeing too.

Pennington has been great as a Dolphin and what we saw yesterday was a young Reciever finally get on the same page with his QB.

but you have to admit that pass to ginn was under thrown and ginn got drilled for it. If he had lead ginn, that goes for TD

It wasn't just that one either. A few other passes were lobbed out there and had no zip at all, leaving ginn to come back and catch it, while jumping to secure it, because it wasnt fired to him. It worked fine yesterday cause everytime ginn caught a pass there was really no one there to drill him, but if pennington keeps lobbing 17 yard passes to ginn, he's going to get killed.

Even on his long throw to Ginn. He had to stop and wait for the ball and jump to catch it which I noticed several times today. He has a weak arm for sure. Any other qb would have had a TD on that first play but instead we got a long gain.

Just as there were passes Ginn jumped to catch so he could catch it with his body. Not necessary. There was one where he half jumped for a ball and fell over and got touched. No YAC. Nice game but that upset me.

Are you looking for perfection from Penny. No QB is. But he's been playing lights out. And we should be thankful!

i think that is why ginn hasnt performed like this every week. His strengths in college were the deep routes...if we cant throw the deep routes and chad cant get the ball infront of ginn then he isnt gonna perform...It worked this game but not always

i never said he had to be perfect but when someone says he has a good deep ball i have to disagree. because his deep ball is below average

Everytime someone says that Chad can't throw the deep ball, I remember that deep pass to Lavernius Coles that sunday night game when he was a jet few years back that killed our team.

i give ginn a lot of respect for going up and taking those big time hits and holding on 2 the football. going up for jump balls isnt even ginns game but he did it anyway 2 perfection.ginn just proved he is more versitile than people give him credit for.

I bet the jets would like his arm back right now, can we leave the guy be for as long as he is productive here he should start, remember 1-15
