The misconception of our QB's arm Strength
With all the tales and stories that stir up within the nfl fan base, a player named Chad Pennington still manages prove people wrong. There have been thousands and thousands of threads indicating that the reason why our offense is limited is due to his "weak arm". I do humbly accept that his arm strength is not his biggest attribute; however, one must accept that Chad Pennington is one of the elite within the league.
In addition to my comments; I would like to demostrate the following stats before yesterday's game:
Top Qb's and their receiver contribution:
Jay Cutler
Marshall 598
Stokley 262
Royal 392
Drew Brees
Patten 127
Moore 341
Hender 465
Maechem 244
Warner
Fitzgerald 546
Boldin 366
Breaston 346
Kyle Orton (not the greatest qb)
Hester 216
Davis 254
Lloyd 249
Booker 183
Tight ends
205 Olsen
296 Clark
Chad Pennington
Ginn 177
Wilford 17
Hagan 51
Bess 72
Camarillo 337
Rb: Cobbs 216
Te Fasano 234
te Martin 233
While Chad is spreading the ball out to everyone, there is a lack of contribution from a consistent receiving threat. Ginn caught 175 yards which is almost as much as he caught this season, so that let's you know how better we are as a team if we have a great receiving threat playing consistently. With 20 passes over 20 yards and 6 passes for over 40 yards, Chad Pennington ranks 6th in the league, so that proves to you that his lack of arm strength is not a limiting factor when it comes to delivering the long ball.
Another interesting stat is how often the long ball has been defended well in the league this season. There are currently 6 players in the league who have thrown the long ball succesfully over 40 yards more than 5 times and Chad Pennington is one of them. This dolphin team is playing smart, and Ted Ginn made a great effort to have the separation needed for our Quarterback to execute.
Stats after this great dolphin week for our QB:
1710 Passing Yards (3rd AFC)
7 Td's 3 interceptions
20 passes over 20 yards (3rd AFC)
6 passes over 40 yards (2nd AFC)
11 Sacks (11th NFL)
QB Rating of 100.1 5th NFL (2nd AFC)
This proves to everyone how important it is to have a consistent receiving threat and if Ted Ginn can perform like this every week then we will be a dominating ball club down the stretch.
