just wondering because we're being hyped as a contender now, yet we have arguably the worst secondary in the league. unless i've completely missed the fact that daunte is also a top notch DB, i don't see us as a legitimate threat to dethrone the pats or do anything in the post-season until we address the secondary. i know we're all high on poole and hopeful about mitchell. but between them, daniels, goodman, k. thomas, tillman and bell, we don't exactly have an experienced group that can make plays and get off the field on 3rd down. i'm sure saban will address it, but i think there are too many holes to fix it in one off-season.

Culpepper a DB? So we are still on the market for a QB.

I agree. As of now we have the worst secondary in the league. I'm confident Saban will fix that though. Also, Will Poole will be back and hopefully he will contribute.

omg when i first read the title, i was like "wtf".

but very true, we do have a big depth of CBs. Dont forget, Poole and Shirdonya Mitchell are supposedly very talented with loads of potential...now if they just didnt get injured too much, we'd be able to prove it.

No, but by not overpaying for Brees we will be able to do more things.
Currently you have Travis Daniels and Will Poole will return this year.
Still lots of Free Agency and Draft to go. Be patient grasshopper.

You got that right! And for years to come.

Yes, culpepper will be playing DB and he will also be selling popcorn at halftime.

i think Gus is like Warren Moon, he can last as a backup until hes 42. I really think he proved quite a bit here this year. Daunte is entering his 8th? year...so he will only last us about 5-6 years...i figure we keep Lemon to groom with us and learn our system. We keep Gus for another 3 years as a backup, a very solid backup. After 3 years, he goes and Lemon takes the backup spot...then we draft a rookie to groom behind Culpepper for 2 years...Culpepper leaves, rookie takes over.

We will pick up a DB in FA, but dont forget that those are 2 really young guys with Poole and Daniels with a lot of talent. I think in a couple years they will develop to be pretty strong corners. As of right now though I agree that we need some help in the DB department. It will come though, hopefully right after TO.

I think you forgot that Gus is gone??

relax my friend there is still plenty of secondary help available in FA and this is one of the best year's in the draft for CB and S......How would you feel if we got Cromartie or Hill or Jimmy Williams and Townsend or Chris Hope in FA??? And maybe even resigned Shulters?

we already have Daniels Poole Bell

I am very concerned about our secondary. That part will take a couple years to develop. Our D line will really have to step it up and pressure the QB in effort to save our secondary. If a good QB has all day to throw the ball, we are screwed. Our D line will have to carry our secondary, as crazy as that sounds. Eh, we'll see what happens.

When I first read the title I thought that the thread starter may have been referring to Culpepper turning out to be another David Boston...i.e. an underacheiver/waste of money.

Although you have a valid concern, I think Saban will bring in some defensive secondary studs either via free agency or the draft in order to hold us down solidly back there. Saban seems to be a Coach that just attracts talent and gets that talent to play at a high level, he won't sleep well with subpar DB's on the field...I have total confidence that he will get it done.

Saban is one of those guys it seems that always gets the job, the girl, the best deal....whatever...we'll be sitting nice come September.

I have a fully working magic eight ball, and its telling me...

We'll sign a FA safety, and then look to trade down in the draft. The first pick after the trade down will not be a DB tho, but Nick Mangold or similar. The trade should restore the lost pick in the Culpepper trade (altho possibly a 3rd rounder not a 2nd), and we'll take 2 DBs to round out day one of the draft.

The eight ball also says the Marlins will avoid 100 losses, the Heat will beat Detroit this time but then lose in the finals, and the Panthers are winning a Stanley cup within the next 4 years. So take it all with a pinch of salt:)
