We all know that Gary Kubiak’s offense will feature a healthy dose of the Zone Blocking Scheme. As I’ve mentioned before, the Zone Blocking Scheme asks the offensive linemen to work in concert to create creases and cut-back lanes. Monroe is very good in his run blocking technique and plays with neighboring guards well. When blocking on the play-side (i.e. run call to the left), Monroe moves laterally with his assigned defender, which provides space for his running back to visualize the hole. Monroe is not a powerful blocker and he rarely displaces players by simply mauling them. But in the Zone Blocking Scheme, this type of blocking is relatively unimportant when compared to repetitive technique and an understanding of leverage.

Monroe really only has issues with run blocking when on the back-side (i.e. play-call to the right). Without elite movement skills, he rarely reaches a back-side linebacker at the second level and when cutting off a back-side defensive end, he can get lazy with his feet.

Monroe has the physical ability to be a solid run blocker who projects as a prototype Zone Blocking left tackle. Monroe’s lack of explosion and pulling expertise will be minimized while Zone Blocking.

The link finally opened and as I figured it was written after his repeated turn downs! Sounds like sour grapes to me!

So Miami runs a zone blocking system and this article says his skill set makes for him to be the "prototype zone blocking LT" and where he's weak (explosion and pulling) would be minimized in that system and the question becomes is he worth it? I think the article answers that for you. If you're looking for a LT for a zone blocking scheme you're not going to do much better than Monroe

I could be wrong but the sporting agency & agent that represents Monroe has never had a client sign for the money Monroe is about to get. I did a little research and found that Eugene Monroe was one of Sanat Shah's first clients if not the very first. Monroe's new deal could represent a lot for a little known agent like Sunny Shah of 320Sports. If he leaves money out in free agency, especially when a team like Miami is willing to overpay it could hinder his business. Shah must show other potential clients he could get the best deal possible & show them the money, so I sincerely doubt Monroe is going to take a deal from Baltimore without knowing what is out there, especially when rumors suggesting Miami wants to pay him top LT money.

If the entire NFL world knows the Dolphins are willing to pay a huge sum to Eugene Monroe you truly believe his agent is not aware. Shah depends on this deal just as much as his client, I cannot see him settling for anything that is not the best deal, which in NFL terms means the most money.

Hickey has done business in the past with Monroe's agent. Bucs signed Eric Page just last year & in 2011 TE Collin Franklin both clients of 320sports.

I want a LT that can pass block first. I think he can do that. I think Albert can do that. There are some choices.

In addition to the playing skills, we require an O-line team leader in the locker room. Everyone is fixated on finding players with the talent. But the culture of the O-line locker room under the leadership of Richie Incognito has tarnished the Miami Dolphin name and the best way to clear the stench in the room is to effectively clean house by replacing the O-line coach and the players and anoint a new leader.
I know very little about the leadership skills of Eugene Monroe. His playing skills are clearly of a high order given the estimated market demand for his services. It is not essential that he has natural leadership attributes (maybe a guard or RT can be found as a dominant leader), but it would be nice to know if that base was covered when we are looking to spend absolute top $ to get him.
Getting a good O-line team leader is actually a pretty big deal (and after the drug references in the Martin/Incognito texts, don't kid yourself that Pouncey is that high character guy).

The big factor is our interest in Big Mac behind the scenes. If he is in the mix we might go LT in the draft, but if they are not thrilled with him, then open the checkbook. JMO

It is going to be a ridiculous number. If the Raiders really did offer Veldher 5 years/$55 M, I am not sure we can afford to sign Monroe. I saw it last night on Twitter. 5 years with a 6th year option/ $55 M with $24M guaranteed and he is waiting until after the weekend to decide. If any of this is true, that is a lot more than I thought he would get!

where did you see that number with veldheer??? typical raiders if true...blow the market wide open over the terms...although that $24 million guaranteed doesn't really do that i guess...probably cause of him coming off the torn tricep

He's worth investing in, but $10+ million seems like a lot. I'd pony up if he's the only viable option, but not before I explore all other LTs.

He is worth 8m absolutely... 12m? not even close
