Is everyone here down on Clay?

slow out of the gates per a rookie and no offseason program.

It only gets better folks. This dude was catching long balls. Seam or no seam, this dude scored TD's in tough spots. TEams started to cover him down the stretch. That says it all.

Only will get better if we get a good-great TE in here and will be like Patriots with Hernandez and the polack.

pollock?

Pollack?
lol

what separates fasano from gronk except tom brady and the pats great pass blocking?

seriously Gronk is a big all around tight end too. put him with the phins and we'd "need a real seem buster" put him on the pats and hes all-world.

not hating on the dudes skill but i have a prob with the whole TE stuff the way it stands now. Ballard, Boss (on ny), celeck, all solid on good teams with good systems and qbs. we were above average in 08.

clay started to come on and fasano had a few multiple TD games. dude makes some serious plays. the prob is he is either blocking or running short routes anyway. . . im excited to see what philbin does with that position. i'd say what we need is to further improve clay, put fasano in better situations, UPGRADE THE O-LINE , upgrade at qb, and get another playmaking WR to run with bess, hartline, marshall.

I don't like Fleener, I don't think he's the seam TE we need. I think he has very similar attributes to Fasano. I want to draft Ladarius Green out of Louisiana Lafayette, a little underweight but big time potential.

He runs a 4'6 but only weighs 230 right now. In the offseason alone with weight training he could probably gain around 10 pounds to get to 240. Within another year he'll be in the 250-260 range and I think he has big time potential.
Don't be surprised if Fleener runs a 4.5 at the combine.

Fasano gets a bad rep from the fans it seams. He had a bumpy season in 2010 but was pretty good last year. Better QB and line play would make his job easier. Clay definately showed promise last year and I believe he will only get better. Clay is a HYBRID FB/TE, showed some potential to be a D's nightmare. Adding another TE isnt a must.

I like Clay, but he seems like more of an Aaron Hernandez type player who is an eh blocker and plays best when playing off another good TE.

Down like sizzle my iszzle? Or down like put the gun in my mouth and squeeze? We down with the mofo!

He did great as a rook. If he could add another 15/20 pounds and still keep his speed he could be just as good as any TE, H Back in the NFL.

I don't think you should think of him as just a H Back because after he puts on the pounds in two years he could play on the line and be an every down TE...but as of today and next year he's not ready for that, but the truth is he can be as good as he wants to be.

We still need a seam busting TE.

If you look at how the Patsies use Hernandez, that's how I envision Clay will be used here in Miami.

A big threat TE would be nice to add alongside Clay.

I don't really get this line of thought.

Seams are *everywhere* in zone coverage. You don't need a TE for it; a FB or a RB do just fine. And a slot WR does a much better job.

The only reason to want a "seam-busting TE" is because you're tied to the idea of having a TE on the field. Belichick didn't put this personnel on the field because of some great breakthrough, he did it because his receivers are squat. And I don't mean diddly squat; he wished he had diddly squat. Welker is the only one worth covering out of that receiving group.

If you want a truly devastating no-huddle offense, go to the run and shoot. It absolutely *shreds* defenses. And it schews the TE entirely.
