For a first year QB working with new players and a new head coach he did pretty well.

I mean if you look at Trent Green you'll notice when he left in 2000 to the Chiefs he had thrown for 15 TDs and only 6 picks then the next year with all the new players and what not he threw 17 TDs and 24 picks. I think Gus did pretty well for us from the New England loss on.

In those 7 games he threw for 10 TDs and only 4 INTs. That looks pretty decent to me for a career backups first year in a new environment. Granted in the other forgettable half of the season with the exception of the Broncos and Panthers games he did pretty crummy especially in the Buffalo game. I think that he really is a solid QB for us even if we don't get our guy Brees or our other guy Cutler.

Expect us EVEN if we don't upgrade the QB this offseason to still do well. I mean just look at what Dilfer did with the Ravens and you will see what I mean. In that Super Bowl year he threw for 12 TDs and 11 INTs which weren't very good numbers at all but they still made it. If Frerotte plays like he did we have a good chance at makind some sort of run for the playoffs. I don't mean this is the SB year I just mean this is a definite playoff year.

Gus doesn't suck. He is average. He is not the guy you want your 1st string offense relying on.

Gus is ok.....an upgrade from Feeley and Fiedler....but we need to do better to get to the next level.

Feeley- yes
Fiedler no( not a whole lot better though)

Almost in every statistical category Fiedler was better.

To answer your question yes Frerotte is that bad.

Gus can throw pretty deep... that's about all he has going for him. He has terrible accuracy. If you watch carefully, he rarely hits a reciever in stride. His passes can be low, high, too far in front, too far behind, he's everywhere. This is why I don't think you can blame Chambers for most of his drops this year, when the ball isn't where it's supposed to be, even a reciever with great hands will have trouble catching everything.

I wish Gus were average. I dream of Gus being average.

But sorry, Gus is well below average. He was the 28th ranked QB in the league. He barely completed half his passes... and perhaps worst of all, he had a miserable YPA, barely over 6.

He is a, what, 12 year veteran? Operating in an offense he's been in for three years? Yeah, he stinks.

Regardless of how much credit people erroneously give him for our winning streak (he had three terrible games in the last six... how is that improvement?) he was worse last year than Fiedler was in any of his full years here.

That should tell you something.

Saban turned this team around, don't make the mistake of thinking that means everybody on the team played well. Gus didn't.

How many times is this thread going to be redone?? He knows the system but he's a backup. He will never be good enough to be a full time starter, but he has served his purpose.

Gus is way below average. The only reason he had 10 TD passes after the NE loss was because we actually had a pass happy OC that tried to throw the ball. Eventually you are going to hook up with somebody.

Gus and Fiedler are about the same. Feeley, .... well I don't know what to say!

We needed a QB since Marino left. God, please let this be the year we actually have the franchise QB we needed since Danny Boy. Enough of these below average journeymen QB's.

No he is not becaue I gaurrantee you that if Brees or a Culpepper comes here, they will have trouble as well. Any QB getting to know a whole new team would. There is too much to absorb. That is why I am not keen on the idea of bringing in anybody except Brees. Culpepper is the injury with me, but either way, i would fully expect any QB to struggle. Its only commone sense.

It takes a couple of years with guys to actually get the feel for each other to the point of doing it in your dreams. It doesnt matter if your a doctor, a CPA, a QB.........you have to develope relationships, get to know the people around you and how they do things.....yadda yadda yadda. so you see, you can have all the talent in the world, but if your attitude sucks, or you put yourself above everybody else and screw up, then people wont react to you. Gus absorbed the worst part of this team and fought through it. But numbskulls with no experience in life could never see the reality of what people deal with every day. Its all the good or bad stuff and there is no grey area.

well, I dont think Saban thinks he is done, and if he does end up our backup, then we would have an excellent backup IMO.

Trent Green is a much better QB than Gus will ever hope to be. He is much more accurate and consistent. Look at the 12 years prior to getting here, and Gus was mediocre in all of them...even when he shared his best times at Washington....That offense was run, run, pass...period...but, they actually got yards when they ran...so didn't have to punt as much. Dilfer was surrounded by arguably the best defense of all time...ours is good, but not Raven (of that year) good...
If you want to remain status quo, fine...I choose differently and apparently so does Saban...Gus will NOT be any better than he was this year....9-7 wont' get us to the promised land.

You`ve got to be kidding right, did you see the passes Chambers dropped in the Patriot loss? Frerotte is average, and I`d like to see him back up Brees next season, but you can`t possibly blame him for Chambers` dropped passes.

Gus is ok, i dont like his carisma with the team though, and he can never make a big play at a crucial time in the game it seems like, thats where i like sage, he seems to have a clutch part of him that gus does not

32 teams, your ranked 28th, your not average, you stink !!!!!!!!!
