Hello Phins Fans: :dolphins:

Just found out that Saban is looking into Signing former Dallas Linbacker Darren Hambrick. Could he be the answer for us at outside linebacker?

Read below and please provide some feedback.....

Hambrick works out for Dolphins:

Former Cowboys and Panthers linebacker Darren Hambrick had a workout for the Dolphins on Friday. After three hard months of training, Hambrick is trying to make a return to the NFL after being away from the game for several years. Hambrick was an active tacklers who once had 154 tackles with the Cowboys during one season. He had some off-the-field incidents, but he's put those problem behind him and is trying to get back into football. The Dolphins continue to look for help. They are close to signing former Vikings linebacker Keith Newman Friday. It isn't known what they will do with Hambrick after the workout.

I think Keith Newman can be a starting quality OLB. He's got decent size at 6'2" 248, and appears to have upside as a pass rusher(8 sacks in 2000). I think he could end up putting up pretty good numbers in our defense, and seems like a better option then Spragan or Hodge at SSOLB.

Newman would be able to do what he does best, and thats rush the passer.

no, hambrick was out of football and newman is only a decent olb. i would prefer sharper or boulware and hope we stil can get watson...

Why would you prefer Sharper or Boulware? Both have injury concerns, and have not shown much the last two seasons.

Frankly none of the guys in question have done much recently. Any of them would be a roll of the dice. We are going to have to hope one or more of them shows something positive in the workout and Capers feels he can pull one good year out of them.

Both are washed up and they're injury prone. Keith Newman is better at this point.

i don't see either of them as an uprade over Spragan or Hodge. I also think the issue of our need is overstated.

We are not the Yankees, we have a salary cap...We just signed Joey H.

Concerning Watson, he would be just like Manny Wright...Be on the practice squad for the first 5 games, then activated to the 53 man roster after 5 games but still inactive for most games until the last 4 games to get some playing time...

We need an answer right now and we have to hire from within for the job..I like Hodge and Spragan....

Wright was never on the practice squad, he was inactive for a few games but not the PS. Watson is a veteran, he is ineligible for the PS.

I like Spragen and Hodge as well but right now we only have four LB's who have starting time and likely quality, Thomas, Channing, Spragen, and Hodge. Moore can't pass a physical, Pope is a special teamer, Libinjo, Sinclair, Bray, McGrew, and Ishola are at best unproven, at worst they are fodder for camp.

In short while I would love to get an established, proven starter for OLB, I would be happy with another veteran for greater depth and flexibility. Our cap can handle a well written, minimum value contract.

Neither is "the answer". At best, they're stopgaps until the Fins either sign or draft a starting OLB.

id really like to get jamie sharper, or somehow work out a trade for donnie edwards

Keith Newman seems like the perfect fit to me. At 6'2/248 he's got the perfect size for Saban's defensive scheme. Since 2000, he's had 3 or more sacks in all but one season, in which he had 2. He had 8 in 2000, so it seems to me like he'd fit the mold as a pass rusher. He's probably head & shoulders above Sedrick Hodge & Donnie Spragan in terms of being the third linebacker on the field with Zach Thomas & Channing Crowder.

Hambrick seems like a waste of time to me..........
