Is Hard Knocks a Bad Idea?

It is an excellent decision. All of the previous teams mentioned how practices were more active and crisp. Who wants to mess upon TV? It gives Philbin's staff an opportunity to evaluate ability to focus with a distraction and to evaluate the players that elevate their game for the spot light. It is great pub. For the players. Seems like a win win to me.

You've got a new coach trying to get his system in place (and trying to learn the players). On top of that you've got a new quarterback who may turn out to be something, but at this point is inexperienced for a college player, to say nothing of an NFL player.

Can't see these cameras and the hype that comes with Hard Knocks as anything but a distraction. In other words, this has got Ross written all over it.

And while I'm interested, of course, I can't see the Dolphins as being a very good pick for other teams' fans. To most other fans, the Dolphins are currently a mediocre-to-bad team with no quarterback and a couple of no-name receivers.

This just seems like a bad decision on both sides of the ball (HBO's and the Dolphins').

People keep posting that, but the last two teams were hand PICKED by HBO to be on the show. None of the teams they asked wanted to be on the show this year.

Besides, the Cowboys and Chiefs both did the show and went on to have worst seasons than we had last year. This was actually the move that made the Cowboys stop seeming like a REAL NFL team and more like Jerry Jones little toy IMO.

I haven't watched any whole episodes before. I'll watch them all & honestly I can't wait to see them now but it does not seem like a good idea. It has nothing to do with Football. It is purely a marketing move. It is about MONEY not winning games.

I wish Philbin luck but they just put a truckload more pressure on him by doing this for a just a few more sheckles. :d-day:
 
This is clearly a sign of desperation from our fearless owner......this is a lose lose situation for the Dolphins.......but I love it, I will get a chance to see our team in training camp and preseason games like never before, screw the rest of the league who will bash us, time to get HBO :)

It was Philbin who wanted it. Ross was more reserved and worried about it. I dont feel like it is a lose-lose. As someone said above, if they cant handle the pressure of a small TV crew in the not so close background during trainging camp, they wouldnt be able to handle it on Sunday afternoons.
 
As Philbin said, they are on TV every week. What's the difference. How is a distraction. This is awesome in my opinion. Were not a team that is even supposed to make a run anyway. I get to see behind the scenes of my favorite team. I am excited and if this is something people hate, then don't watch. If they play well this year, then great, if they don't, my hopes weren't up anyway. Just gonna love watching this new regime and the past team they are putting together. Cannot wait.
 
I don't see how this is supposed to be a distraction. And I don't believe I ever criticized the Jets when they did Hard Knocks. I see it the opposite. I see more benefit than harm. The coaches that have coached with Hard Knocks going on say that their players practiced better and harder because they didn't want to look bad on HBO.

I see this as a way for a new team under new management to bond together, actually.

I don't think Miami has those type of personalities on the roster....now if BM was still here that would be a different story.

I actually think this will be great for the Dolphins as a team. Young players, coach Philbin has a grueling practice with the pace, Philbin wants competition, and what better way to motivate players to give every thing they have when they know their efforts are going to be aired on TV?
 
I don't like it. Stupid move by a young team. Why would you want the world to see all your weaknesses?
 
I love it. It's not like this is the 1st time any of these guys have had a camera pointed at them. They live in the camera's lense.
 
Herm Edwards says it wasn't a distraction. Rex Ryan and Brian Billick say the same, in fact they go one further and said that practices with the Hard Knocks cameras rolling were generally better, players were more focused because they didn't want to look bad on HBO.

I don't think Miami has the type of coaching staff and players that would get nervous about the presence of cameras, knowing they've got to hide things or pretend to be something they're not. Philbin is a lot more Tony Dungy than Gregg Williams.
 
The Dolphins are in need of positive attention and after a successful draft, what better idea then to open up the franchise for the public to see. I like the idea that Ross is removing the black cloud of silence that hovers around Davie.

I didn't realize so many other coaches had said it wasn't a distraction.

I wonder why so many teams turned it down before they offered it to the Dolphins.
 
I don't think the cameras would be a distraction.

I think the media's constant negativity and second guessing of everything that the coaches do would be a distraction because then the players would get bombarded by the local press with those questions forcing them to deal with it.

Scrutiny is the word. A new Herad coach and new OC and DC would be immediately placed under public scutiny before they are even given a chance to win any games.

The other thing is whatever surprise element we have due to a new defense may possibly be partially compromised. Also, I remember the jests had a lot of camera time on certain players and sure enough those guys are now Patriots and on other squads.
