Is he Tannehill homer?

Had to laugh at this quote in the article:

"During the 2012 season, his rookie year, the former Texas A&M signal-caller played behind an adequate offensive line with very poor receiving options and a below-average running game."

Wait, wat?

I thought that Hartline and Bess were AWESOME, FREEKIN" AWESOME receiving options!!

At least that's what 90 percent of FH believes.

Dang, smh. The pieces around Tannehill the first two years were pretty much the worst that a rookie QB has had to endure for a space of two years. Perfect way to kill a young QB -- throwing him to the wolves w. poor pieces around him.

Now people say, "It's on Tannehill to perform!" As if the team has great pieces even now. Apart from Wallace, zero playmakers at WR. Maybe Landry can change that?

And a bunch of pedestrian players at TE.

More pedestrian player at RB.

And a bunch of question marks on OL. Potential at least. Didn't even have that last year.

Bess and Hartline are like super playmakers....just get the ball in the hands and watch magic happen....like blades of grass making shoe string tackles ....

Adequate offensive line??? What a joke. Because of the Incognito-Martin fiasco, we were flipping our lineup on a weekly basis and bringing in crap to fill the holes. Tanny was running for his life.

As LDaniel7 wrote, Tannehill survived extremely hard situation for a young QB,
and that make me a firm RT7 believer

I don't think many around here said Hartline and Bess were great #1s and #2s. Bess was a very solid slot WR and Hartline is very solid #2. Hartline proved early in the year they type of numbers he could put up if you didn't pay special attention to him but once teams started doubling him he was taken out of the game. If you have another weapon that demands a double Hartline is a very solid WR. There are certainly things he is not great at like RAC yards or redzone, but he has very good hands and can get open vs nearly anyone one on one, has great awareness, and excellent body control. Only an average blocker but very willing at that as well.

For those who love to complain about Hartline I really doubt you are going to love Landry.

My goodness man.

The only way Hartline gets open against good one on one is in the middle of the field.

Forget about it in the red zone. He's nothing. He's not quick. He's not fast. He's not physical. He's got a poor catch radius.

He runs good routes -- often has to work double and triple moves to get a yard or less separation -- and this works between the 20s. After that, it's really, really, really sad watching Hartline against one on one.

Good WRs DOMINATE one on one and especially red zone.

Hartline will be eclipsed as a number 2 WR as quickly as mediocre Gibson eclipsed Bess as a number 3.

i don't think i've ever seen a team double brian hartline...of all the wrs he's the bait one...there is no rolled coverage that way

we now have 3 former first rounders on the OL and a bunch of late round overachievers at the skill positions. i'd rather coach up the OL and have the talent at the skill positions. cant coach up 4.55 which between hartline gibson and landry we have plenty of...

If he was as atrocious as you are saying he is, he simply would not have put up back to back 1,000 yard seasons. I'm not saying he is elite, but you are vastly underrating the guy.

Look, I would like Hartline if the team were not continually relying on him as a number one or two WR.

And then everyone pretending as if that is good for the team. It's not. It's putting mediocre at a key skill position -- and then b/c you have a mediocre CONSISTENT guy there, you (for five years) refuse to allow better talent to develop there.

I'm not saying Hartline is horrible. He runs GOOD routes. But that's it. He plays smaller than he is. He has poor body control. Mediocre hands. Not overly quick. Not very physical -- slightest challenge from the DB and the DB wins the spot (compare to Landry who will take contact and then win the spot). Hartline is limited to route running and timing from QB to get open. In basketball terms he's NOT a guy who can "create on his own." He can't "create his own shot" so to speak.

Which means that the D is never threatened by Hartline. He can be in single coverage ALL GAME and never truly make a team pay. A few first downs in the middle of the field and a TD here and there because of all the attention paid to the other side of the field, etc.

I'm sorry for beating a dead horse. It is what it is. I just see the chance to upgrade that position as quickly as the number 3 got upgraded by trading Bess. I'd like Hartline a lot more (as a player) if he were not clogging up a number one or two WR spot w. mediocre (but consistent) play. He's a good human being but average player.
