Is Ireland drafting...

so what do we do at WR? IMO WR was a much bigger need than TE.. are we tanking 2012 to get a #1 WR in 2013? because we will not be competitive in anyway without a WR. We'd be more competitive without a TE than without a WR

Don't tell that to New England.

I remember watching the Super Bowl with ... NEW ENGLAND and thinking "those idiots can't win with TE's".

Yep, I was watching them play in the SUPER BOWL when I was thinking that. Imagine how foolish they looked. Meanwhile, Brandon Marshall was the MVP of the Pro Bowl! Yep, we showed them. It's the PRO BOWL that matters. What knuckleheads the Patriots have been all this time.

They CAN'T extend him until after Longs contract is negotiated which will clear cap room for Wake for 2012 that's currently tied up. When Long works out a long term deal it will free cap room for this season. Not signing Wake has zero to do with what they think of him.

How will Longs salary create more cap space ? If he gets the same contract I don't see any
cap space being available.

Have you checked how many free agents we have available next season???

One difference...The QB throwing the ball to those tight ends...

The back end of a contract is usually the largest part. So by resigning him we'll probably get him next year at the price we were paying him about halfway through his rookie deal. Hopefully. If he wants much more you gotta try and trade him.

I'll bet they keep 3 tight ends and use Fasano as the blocking TE. Clay and the new guy are the seem threats. Copy cat league. Think new England with no #1 wide out.

Is Ireland drafting replacements for Long,Fasano, and Wake
and in the process saving 80+ million??

Nope.........

I thought you meant was Ireland drafting...OR was Joe Philbin drafting cause this draft so far was a tremendous success!

Yep :-)

Because you get the spread the payment out over multiple years.

As well, sometimes the contracts have clauses that let you escape paying certain amounts. For example: Brandon Marshall was not making $10 million a year. He only got paid between 8-9 his first year, we would have owed him $2 million more 3 years down the line IF he played 90% of the special teams snaps.
Another example would be Ricky Williams first contract. Was historically bad.

Because his current contract is back loaded and the hit for this year is particularly high. When he resigns/extends and gets a new signing bonus the hit for this year drops. I'm not going to pretend to know all the details, but it has been discussed elsewhere. It's possible I misunderstood, but I don' think so.

probably only for fasano which i don't really care it would take egnew a year to get better at blocking and learn the game and etc and plus we have clay.

Long,Wake,Bush are the people i want resigned and they should be hopefully we should resign long and wake and franchise bush

Or get 2 third round draft picks for them apparently...

I can think of more than 5 WRs I'd rather have than Brandon Marshall. I know it's cool to bash a guy after he's been traded, but top 5 WRs don't drop 6-7 touchdown passes and fall out of bounds for no goddamn reason while running down the sideline alone.

AHHAHA i remember that. i was like what the hell. i really think he had a weird atitude. no necessarily "bad" but really "off"

But 2 third round draft picks don't draw double coverage the whole game, letting your slot receiver or flanker get man coverage against a defenses #3 DB, or force their defense to be honest and keep 8 men out of the box, allowing us run the ball once in a while.

I'm also having trouble remembering our last 1,000 yard receiver...

Anyhow, the argument is circular and has been beaten to death on this board more times than I can count. Sorry about the jab/derail, I'm just still bitter about it all.

Nuff said from me on that issue:)

Somebody will need to be cut to make cap room to resign wake. I doubt team waits till next year as he will become a FA that wont be franchised. Franchise will be for Long. Fasano is logical choince to get cut for cap purposes. Otherwise someone else will need to restructure.
