With the recent release of Seau, do you guys think there is a need for another LB? I know we have Crowder (whom I absolutely LOVE watching!) and Zach, but with the 3-4/4-3, I feel there is an absolute need at this position right along with DT and DB. I mean, if in the 3-4, you would have Thomas, Taylor, Spragan, Crowder. It might just be my opinion, but none of those guys really jump out to me as a "cover LB". With the way the league has been over the past several seasons, TEs have become a staple in many (if not ALL) of the offenses in the league.

Some might say Taylor or Crowder can cover a TE (because we all know Zach is a very ineffective pass coverage LB). If Taylor is left to the flats, we take away his strengths, which is rushing the QB. I remember last year when Taylor was left to cover Steve Smith in the endzone.........wasn't pretty (Just pointing out his cover skills....though most cannot cover Steve Smith). Crowder? Maybe. He got burnt several times last year, but he WAS a rookie. Spragan seems more of a between-the-tackles kind of guy.

For some reason, there seems to be a need for a coverage-type LB.

What do you guys think?

You are not alone....especially with Capers here with 3-4 dreams. Who is the 4? Spragan, servicable but not a playmaker. If thats the 4, whats the backups like? Nothing to write home about.

Peterson. please. Peterson would be amazing, i would be totally fine with throwing our money at Peterson and Brees. in my opinion that makes an almost instant contender.

Why is nobody mentioning Will Witherspoon...Hes young, athletic, and fast. Hes averaged over 100 tackles in his 4-5 year career. I can understand that he might be asking 3-5 million a year. But you cant not pass on such a talented OLB like Witherspoon.

big need... hope we address it in the draft with Lawson.. or in the 2nd round..

I honestly haven't heard of him until today.

ZT is one of the best cover LB's in the NFL. Do you watch the games. He is constantly being praised for his coverage abilities.
There are NO LB's in this league who can cover an elite WR one on one. In fact there aren't many LB's who can cover elite TE's either. Most LB's drop into a zone. ZT is one of the best at reading a QB and dropping into coverage. His speed is vastly under rated.

After QB, LB would be my top FA priority..imo we need a vet+a 1st day rookie

not reallistic..but i wish we could get peterson or witherspoon, I think Mcginnest is done

Thats a great choise, excellent pass protection LB that could fit in a 3-4 scheme very well

I have to disagree completely. At reading QBs? Yes, no doubt his experience and game-film analysis helps incredibly. At actual "coverage" of a TE that's running a post or medium slant......he's toast. ZT is probably one of the WORST LBs in the league in "coverage". In definition, I mean running with the TE. Not anticipation of throws or reading coverages. He is absolutely too short and, respectively, a little slow, when it comes to covering a TE one-on-one.

Now I know that the center-field S has to be aware of a deep post by a TE, but sometimes (more often than not) a LB is left alone on these plays because of sheme. ZT is rarely in position to make a play on the ball when this happens. Trust me on this, ZT does not cover TEs well.
