put a guy on IR if he's only expected to miss a week or 2? I'm just wondering because it didn't sound like Turk's injury was all that serious and now he's out for the year. The same thing happened w/ Thompson. I would rather have Jones if he's healthy but I'm wondering if there are rules for this. Sort of like in baseball where if a guy is healthy and he can play, you can't just keep him on the DL so that you keep him plus another player that is on the 25 man roster.

when your put on IR its permanant. come on you can learn that one from madden.

I was wondering the same thing. Your right, no indications came out that Turk's injury was that serious. But I'm sure that there are some sort of stipulations for the list.

Now, when a player is hurt and can't play. That means he's injured. He's not able to play football. If he's going to be injured for an extended period of time that will keep him away from playing football, then the coach, he's the guy who runs the team, will put that injured player on what's called the injured reserve. The injured reserve is for players who are injured.

Umm....did you read my post right? I was wondering if you could put anyone IR regardless of how injured the player is. For example, if you're going to miss only one week, can the team put you on IR, thus putting you out for the season? I've been watching football long enough to know that IR is permanent. I was just wondering if there are rules for players to be put on IR.

Let Me Type A Little Louder And Give You Some Examples To See If You All Can Understand What I Was Initially Trying To Ask.

Will Poole Tears His Acl And Is Expected To Be Out 3 To 4 Months. As A Result He Is Put On IR (I KNOW HE'S ON THE PUP LIST BUT I'M JUST USING HIM FOR MY HYPOTHETICAL) Because His Injury Will Keep Him Out A Good Part Of The Season If Not The Whole Season. Makes Sense!

Matt Turk Is Questionable This Week And Would Probably Be Good To Go In 1 To 2 Weeks. If He's Out For 2 Weeks, There Are Still 14 Other Games He Could Play So Why Put Him On Ir? It Doesn't Make Sense

What I'm Asking Is Are There Any Rules Pertaining To Putting Seemingly Healthy Players Or Players That Will Be Healthy In The Very Near Future On Ir?

well for starters, will poole isn't on IR. Secondly, no there isn't any sense to putting Matt Turk on IR. It was probably more so a 'move' by saban. one that only he understands. but im not about to doubt him.

I guess you only read what you want to read in the post huh? Did you read what I wrote about Poole in parenthesis?

settle down, thats hard as hell to read. It is a great question too, I wondered if a sandbag job was happening too. My question is do you get full pay on IR?

Players on IR are paid by their team. But they can't play for that team for the rest of the year. That's why if a player thinks he can play that year, he will have an injury settelment with his team.

Saban put Turk on IR because he had to clear a roster spot for Jones ... and you can't cut a player if he is injured it's in the CBA.

It would not make sense to take two roster spots for a punter

It will be interesting to see if any flak comes out of it, now that we've really done this with two players -- Thompson and Turk. Basically, the statement seems to be that they can't play for Miami anymore this season (with non-guarenteed contracts since it's before the first game) but if released (due to injury settlement) they can sign with and play for other teams.

I agree that there is a question -- is this a 'legal' use of the IR designation? I think if it isn't, we'll find out quickly, and even if it's a gray area, we'll probably see some clarification or other statement from the league.

But I don't know the answer.

his injury didnt sound serious if he gets injury settlement he can play for another team
i just didnt know if he could be traded his new team wouldn't have to put him on their IR
