Porter is due $1 Million in a bonus on March 1st. Free agency/trading begins March 5th.

Basically I'm saying lets pay Porter the $1 Million and trade him to a team for a 4th or 5th rounder. He has a $4 million contract which is a good deal for any team. I definitely think we could get a draft pick from a team that feels they are a player or two away. Some teams that immediately come to mind are Saints, Philly, and Giants. Maybe Panthers since they are done with Peppers.

I think it's worth it, but then again its not my money.

Since it's not my money and it won't hurt us cap wise (since there will be no cap) I say go for it. Even if it was a 6th rounder who wouldn't want to buy a few draft picks?

It's worth it to us because we don't have to pay it. Ross and Co. might think differently however, is a mid round draft pick at best worth $1 mil?

I personally like the idea. If we spend the money to retain him past the opening of free agency we are sending a message to potential suitors that he still has talent worth trading for. It's a million risk, but some team may bite and with no cap this year, this is the perfect opportunity to do something like this.

we can get a 4 for him i mean **** we got a 5th for ndukwe right?

He would have to go to a team with a 3-4 scheme so the Saints, Eagles and Giants are out. There are only a handful of possibilities and that diminishes his trade value. Additionally, NFL execs know the Dolphins won't tolerate Porter's behavior and will cut him before the season starts.

Mike Dee did say that resources are not an issue so maybe they will roll the dice and pay him then see if they can get a 5th for him. I really don't see getting anything higher then that. It will be interesting to see this play out.

no one is going to trade for a 33 year old player that is due 4.5 millions dollars next season just cut him

The front office will likely debate this and if they feel they can get decent value in a trade, then yeah, I think they will pay it then trade him. Pay it and get a 7th or 6th rounder? Not likely. However, if they think they can get a 4th rounder for him, then it is very possible they pay him the bonus.

Plus, there is always the chance they try and delay the bonus.

I would do it and then trade him for anything even a 7th round pick as long as it's out of the division. Maybe Kansas City or Cleveland as Parcells has ties to people in both organizations.

Hmm, $1m ammortized over 2 years w/ 16 games per season and 36,500 seats per game works out to about $0.86 more per ticket. Sure, I'd pay that for an extra pick. Or since the team makes most of its money through television ads and I watch most games from my couch, I'd watch an extra ad per game.

I'm upset that we had this surplus of linebackers and we haven't and possibly not getting compensated for them. When we lost Matt Roth with no compensation, I could not figure out why we didn't save him for trade bait. I have a feeling we are going to lose Porter with no compensation.

Yes, business is business, we should send him to Detroit for a 5th rounder.
