A worse starting FS than Gibril Wilson? Seriously, he started many games in the abysmal 2007 season and I remember him having a couple picks and not missing so many tackles. He seems to have a better skill set for free safety than Wilson. I'm sure this thread will be unpopular just curious to know if anyone remembers noticing Allen sucking to the extent we notice Wilson which is pretty much every game.

if he cant beat out Wilson than yes he sucks worse!
 
Poor Jason never should have been moved to CB. He just wasn't going to be a starter his first couple of years.

He should have been a late 2nd or early third selection.

How ironic that his fantastic triangle numbers screwed up his career.

That's a good point and one that we may soon find out. I think Gibril Wilson is a good hitter and has a reputation for being strong at the point of attack vs the run (although I must say he hasn't been living up to that reputation lately) which is really more the skillset of a strong safety, so it's like we have two strong safeties back there and so we keep getting torched.
 
I can't recall Jason Allen every being burnt badly (other than by Moss but come on) or missing tackles. Plus when he was in, it seemed like he made quite a few big plays. His drawbacks seem to be all in the mental part which unfortunately is very important for a saftey.

No coach has ever seemed to want to play him, but when they did he definately seemed to cover and tackle better than Wilson. He must really suck in practice and the classroom.
Who knows.
 
Sad part is Jason Allen has better ball skills than anyone in our secondary with the exception of Sean Smith. Too bad he cant get a grasp of the system and gets trucked all the time.

This web site has Bell and Wilson number 98 and 99 out of 104 safety's in the NFL...i DIDN'T EVEN THINK THERE WERE 100 PLUS SAFETY'S IN THE NFL

Ok let me get this straight a team can have a total of two safety's on the field and there are 32 teams. Ok that alone give us 64 safety's that start in the league (roughly) and bell and Wilson are not part of the 64? Wow doesn't tony like statistics? What does this tell him? I will tell you what it tells me there are back up players that are better then them. Which also will tell me maybe i should start Clemons and see what he can do.

I suggested the same last week, and no one here liked the idea. I still do. I like his height, ball skills, and coverage for TEs as well WRs more than any safety we now have.

Funny, Wilson's going through a chance of position also. FS now, SS in 08, FS in 07 but that was with the Giants. I think Bell and Wilson are too much alike to playing together, and both are off because of it.
