Simple question: is Jenkins a long term solution?

I ask because I have no idea. He didn't look impressive last year and only played this year due to the in jury crisis but he is among the league leaders in tackles and even the national media have noticed him.

So, is he going to be part of the long term defensive plan? Or is he going to drop out as soon as Wheeler (trash), Ellberbe (trash) and Misi are all healthy?

Jenkins is our WLB going forward. Ellerbe will be cut at the end of the season IMO.

He's the only guy with a whiff of instinct. He played slow in preseason, but has displayed some nose for the game since then.

If we had 3 other instinctual players on the roster, I'd say his chances were 50:50. Given we have none, I'd say he's a banker until that changes.

But even then, do you replace him asap in the offseason? or is he a long term solution?

5/14/2013: Signed a four-year, $2.632 million contract. The deal included a $472,688 signing bonus. 2014: $495,000, 2015: $585,000, 2016: $675,000, 2017: Free Agent

Very reasonable contract terms. Dont think he will be going anywhere anytime soon, even if just for depth and special teams.

he is a fourth (?) round draft pick in his second year, of course his deal is ok, even first round picks have affordable deals. What I am asking is should he be a long term starter?

I don't want to sound smart or trite, but you replace him when you have someone better. You might not feel the need to have someone better next offseason if he continues like this, but eventually somebody will come into this roster who can do what Jenkins does and more. If nobody comes in the next 3-4 years, then the guy to replace is Hickey, not Jenkins.

Jenkins has been playing very well.

He's been a very bright surprise.

Honestly, he showed instincts last year but he wasn't strong enough. He sniffed out plays when he was on the field last year he just would get carried along for the ride. This year he's not getting carried.

I think he's earning the right to keep the job this year, and has the right to go into next year viewed as the starter if he keeps this up

Bingo. He was weak at POA last year, now he's bulked up and he's finding the ball and closing gaps at a high level.

No need to replace him if he keeps it up.

the future at LB is looking like Jenkins, Tripp and Misi. Wheeler and Ellerbe will most likely be gone next year.
