Honestly as good as it was to see the Jets lose yesterday it did not better our position in the playoffs. As a matter of fact I believe that the Jets losing yesterday may have actually hurt us more than anything. As of right now the Jets need both to win and for NE to lose to get into the playoffs. Basically if NE wins at 1 they have nothing to lose in this game. We all know that the Jets would love nothing more than to screw Miami out of the playoffs. So now when its 4th and 1

I dont think it hurts you but I think it puts a little bit more pressure on you to "finish the Jets off". The Jets have been awful since the back to back impressive road wins over the Titans and Pats. You have had a great season but it would suck to get knocked out of the playoffs by a Jets team that is basically "dead".

i was just thinking the same thing, because now if the patriots lose the jets will be extremely motivated to win knowing if they beat miami there in the playoffs, and on the other hand if buffalo upset the patsies, the jets will see the scoreboard and say we got nothing to play for but we can screw the entire dolphins season if we win and like you said, go for it on 4th and1 or 4th and 2 even because it can only make them feel better to win, wont really matter if they lose because it was never up to them anyways if the patsies win

Its hard to say really. You could look at it conversely from several other angles.....

1) Mangini may need to win this game to save his job....Will this motivate the players even more to win, or do they think he is terrible and wouldnt mind helping him out the door if they cant get in the playoffs anyway?

2) Brett Favre--if the Pats have won, does he really give a ****? Is it possible he HATES NY and its people and wouldnt mind just flipping them a giant bird on his way out and say **** em?

3) Coles -- Does he like Mangini? We know he isnt huge on Brett Favre. Does he drop a key pass or two just to **** on Favre if the Pats have already won?

You just dont know the answers to any of this. I still think when guys are playing the game(for the most part) they play to win out of sheer pride. Its really no different than playing a pickup game of whatever outside your house when teams are out of the playoffs. They still want to win. Just like you want to beat your neighbors on the driveway court. At least most of them do. Its kinda hard to play football in the first place if you arent playing your best.

I agree actually. When you've got nothing to play for you're going to take those chances that can lead to big plays. Favre playing loose without a care in the world in
his last game is actually gonna be more dangerous than Favre with pressure on him.

Disagree with WV - as much as I'd love to believe Coles/Favre/ etc. hate Mangini or hate NY, these people are first and foremost COMPETITORS who want to win no matter what. When you're on the field, I think you forget about all those other things - you just want to be better than whoever is across from you. Coles is a professional - if anything, maybe he doesn't give 110% because he doesn't want to be there (a la many of our players last year), but I really doubt it.

I'd much rather the Jets are playing for the division and it's a hard-fought smashmouth game. I don't like our chances when they have nothing to lose, because fact of the matter is they are a dangerous team that has crumbled over the last few weeks due to pressure and maybe some other internal problems. But they're still talented and dangerous.

EDIT: Looks like it's a moot point because Jets can get a wildcard with a Ravens loss, and the Ravens game is flexed. So they will be playing for something no matter what happens in the Pats game, which I think is ultimately a good thing for us.

Problem is... we always seem to loose to the Jets, that's what scares me.

The Jets in potentially cold, snowy weather will be a VERY dangerous team next week. I would love to see the Phins blow 'em out...but in recent history we have struggled to win the games we should when there is a lot on the line. Favre is due for a big game and we often give QBs those big games they are looking for. This Phins group is a different team - I hoping for different results.

4th and one, nothing to lose, blah blah blah!

Who cares about the Jets, they just lost to Seattle when they had everything to play for!
Tony will have the FINS ready, it is simple the FINS have everything to play for, beat your hated rival win the AFC East, buy a Division Champs hat on Monday!

I won't be surprised if Coles drops some passes because he hates Favre and LOVES Penny. Plus the whole team wants Mangini Fired. Plus nobody wants the Pats to be Div. Champs. So many reasons why Miami will win.. ;)

Fellas, it's the Dolphins vs the Jets. It doesn't matter if they are playing for the division tittle or a Michelob. We could both be 0-15, the sparks are going to fly. These teams really don't like each other. I don't think it matters what happened last week, what matters is what has happened the last 42 years since these teams started playing in 1966. It is game on regardless of what is at stake. I hate the F-ing Jets!

We have to simple concentrate on what we have to do. The jets will bring it regardless. I'm sure with them having our number for the past decade they'll a certain amount of confidence going into this game. The Dolphins will have to play error free football. Smart football.

I still think the Jets have more pressure, because the Pats need help to get in, but what they are doing, like other teams is just take care of businesss and put such effort and then worry about how the chips fall. We don't know if the Jets and dolphins are playing late and they might not be aware of the outcome until later in the game regarding the PAtriots.

The fact of the matter, the Jets are still going to play like the PAts are going to lose, even though I highly doubt the PAts will lose to the Bills. The chance is still there even though slim, which will still be enough hope for the Jets, yet the same time, the pressure on the Jets more so. I doubt the jets would be happy helping the PAts get into the playoffs. But this is why I feel this way. The Jets are the one's who spent all the money to win now and to get into the playoffs, they are the one's who go Brett and dropped Chad. So the pressure is there, because Miami doesn't have that qb pressure, because even if some would think the Jets were better off getting Brett and dropping Chad, this doesn't affect Miami, because Miami getting chad was a positive no matter what way you look at it and this was a team that was 1-15 the previous year and a team that was thougt to be rebuilding.

They have exceeded expectations big time, just to where they are. Whereas, the Jets set up for now and had the huge expectations of making the playoffs and a splash in the playoffs, whereas, Miami just having a winning season was beyond expecations. The Jets still are going to play since they have a chance, even if slim, and as a result there is still that pressur of getting beat by Chad and missing the playoffs with all these expecations they have had and questions lingering, whereas, Miami doesn't have the questions, because the expectations weren't like they were for the Jets and Chad was a bonus regardless.

I never stated that I believed anything contrary to that. Those WERE QUESTION MARKS at the end of those sentences I typed.
