Stat wise, it is close to a toss up. This year, 27 sacks, 30 hits, and 102 hurries. Last year, we had 46 sacks, 69 hits, and 216 hurries.

Do you see our pass rush as better, worse or, about the same?

I would have thought we'd be ahead on hits this year. I guess when the team is having more success overall it just feels like we are getting more hits on the QB. Anyway, looks like we are ahead on sacks.

I bet our opponents time of possession is quite a bit less which may explain these results, I dunno

About the same as last year. Our linebacking on the other hand seems much improved even with all the backups playing. Jenkns > Ellerbe
Since Jones has got back the secondary looks better than last years.
Finnegan > Carroll
Delmas > Clemons

At least so far.

I think it's better, and more consistent.

Because of our d-line depth, our front four can go all out on every down, and never get tired.

Forgot to post that the pass rush chances are about the same with 1449 this year, and 2960 last year. It's unusual to be so close.

I think it is better. Pressure is forcing more interceptions this year and we are catching the errant throws

Something else to consider is the amount of time or snaps the defense gets. Last year I feel as though our defense was on the field more, if true it makes those number you posted for this year look even better since with a shorter amount of time spent on the field, the averages would be much higher than last year even if the end number was the same

Wake was hurt last year and has a down year. That's why I think we are better. That and Vernon is improving even more. Last year how much did we have to blitz? This year its constant 4 man pressure that's why the pass defense is so improved. When you get the QB without blitzing you can drop 7 in coverage. Being so much more effective

Agree with nick1 100% Wake was never the same after that knee injury. You could see it in the 3rd preseason game when he got a sack or 2 (I forget) vs Dallas. Seemed to me I hadn't seen him turn the corner like that for a while. Cam is a warrior but I think he rushed back from that knee injury and it slowed him a little for the rest of the year.

I do think you are right on not blitzing as much, try to look it up, but without the DL we have 5 sacks, 3 hits, and 30 hurries this year. Last year we had 9 sacks, 14 hits, and 51 hurries.

Purely from a perception standpoint and not any in-depth analysis of the stats, to me it appears that considering the stats from SB in the first post that it's on a similar level but this year there's more impact, it seems like it's happening at significant times in the game.

One thing that I am certainly confident in saying [and again with no stats to back up - purely perception], is that our field position is so much better this year as a whole. Which certainly has a knock on effect with the play calling on O.

I did find that we blitzed 234 times last year, 36%, and 6th most in the NFL. I cannot find this year but, outside of the DL, we have 156 pass rush snaps from others. This does not tell us how many time we have blitzed, as LB's can move up to the line without being a blitzer.

Agree on more impact this year, and the field position has come with Fields having a bad year but kickoffs pinning teams back to start around the 20 on average and Landry giving us extra yard.
