If Daunte is set to make 2 or 3 million dollars next year then I dont think Mueller and Saban are going to look to get rid of him. But if he is set to make 5 mil or more I could see Mueller hitting the phones right now to see if there is any interest out there for a trade before the deadline. The Ravens, Raiders and Redskins are all teams that might be interested IMO. Anyone know how the contract is structured?

The Ravens wouldn't be interested & Cambell will be the man in Washington. The Raiders might have interest but they are high on Walter. They also already had their shot when we did.

i read somewhere that he makes about 1 mil this year and that it jumps to about 9 mil next year. not 100% sure so dont hold me to it

What are the details of Daunte's contract?

How long do we have him? How much is he making?

I'd say most of the NFL's decision makers have seen or know of Daunte's last 12 games as a starter. Realistically, I don't think Daunte has any trade value right now. Meuller can burn up the phones all he wants but I'm pretty sure he'll be hearing NO THANKS quite often.

The bottom line here is we gave up a 2nd ropund pick for this guy and he was once a very dynamic, pro bowl QB. We need to at least let the guy get healthy or wait and see how healthy he will get prior to doing anything about the situation. I posted many times this offseason that I thought there was a chance Daunte would struggle early on but thought and hoped it wouldn't happen. I surely didn't think things would be this bad. I also posted many times that folks would jump on the value of this trade whether Daunte played really well or really poorly way too early. Of course that is the case. We need to give this thing 2 years before making an honest assessment on Daunte Culpepper in Miami. We at the very least need to wait until the guy is 100% healthy.

With all of that being said I'm behind Joey Harrington 100%. If in this time he proves he's the QB of the Dolphins future so be it, I'll be happy for him regardless of who I think the better player is. Seeing the Dolphins win is way more important to me than being right is. That is for sure.

haha, Ravens? NO.

Raiders, yes.

Redskins, yes.

Browns, yes.

Lions, yes.

Tampa, yes.

Gee whilickers...maybe the Colts need a QB.

Based upon the words chosen by Saban today, I would say there is no desire to trade DC at this time.

With as much of this year's money pro-rated, it would cost us as much to cut or trade him as it is to keep him, so all of you Daunte haters can suck it up and deal.

I think Daunte still has possible value to playoff teams who have noone backing up their starters and might be desperate enough to make the trade. Billick must produce a playoff appearance this year or he's gone from Baltimore. If McNair goes down Boller becomes the QB. The Redskins have Campbell but he isnt ready yet and Snyder is nuts. The Raiders probably wouldnt because their offensive line is worse than ours. Same for the Bucs. The Browns are happy with Frye and have no chance at the playoffs so I doubt they would be interested.

I dont think its a matter of dumping Culpepper per say. I think if he only costs 2 or 3 mil next year we keep him to see if another year of rehabilitation helps him get back some of his mobility.

I think the three things that will determine whether we keep him around is

1) salary next year. We cant pay 5 mil for a QB we are unsure of. If its 2 mil we can keep him and hope he pans out

2) We have to believe that he will regain most his 2004 form and not be the stiff he was in the past four games

3) What is his market value. I agree there is no way we get a 2nd rdr but a 4th is possible. To me if we get a 3rd rd we do it unless we feel certain he'll reagin his mobility. If its a 4th or worse and we think there's a good chance he regains his previous form we keep him. If we secretly dont think he'll ever regain his previous form we'll take anything we can get

Don't be so sure about that.

Daunte is our starting QB. He's signed until 2013. He isn't going anywhere.
