I read somewhere (sorry don't have the link) that Murtha could be our starting RT. Apparently he played well in the last few games when filling in for Jake Long at LT. If Winston doesn't end up in Miami, and I don't think he will, then Murtha may be our man.

What do you guys think? Did he play well when he stepped in for Long?

That was jerry. this year. Murthawas out for the year. Neither guy to me seems like a solution but you never know

One big indication is we put a 2nd round tender on him. A few weeks back I read somewhere that Coach Philbin spoke about 'hidden gems' in the OL group... me thinks this is one. Big, strong and athletic... just needs reps.

Will be interesting if they give him a shot at G... I'd prefer him at RT but I wouldn't be surprised to see him at R or LG. Would like to see a right side of Garner at RG and Murtha at RT. That definitely raises the athletic ability over last year's pairing although not as experienced.

Adding DeCastro to this mix along with Incognito, Jerry and Pouncey gives us potentially the best OL we've had in years with quality depth.

This FO seems to love Murtha which I do not understand. He at least needs stiff competition during camp...which I do not current see on the roster.

The draft is weak in terms of RT while FA still has some candidates, but not many.

I definitely don't think this is a weak draft for RT. Mark Colombo seriously made the fans believe that RT is a hard position to fill to the point where people would draft a RT at #8 overall. There are still some veterans out there as well. I don't wanna undermine the importance of the RT position, it most definitely is imporant . . . especially in a league that is more "pass driven" . . . but when you have the highest paid LT in the game and a first round OC from last year already on the team, you have already done your due dilligence on the offensive line. As much as I would like Eric Winston, some of them dollars need to go to getting a playmaker or 2.

Man I like Decastro also, but that is a tough pill to swallow at #8 overall. Atleast you are getting the best player in years at the position. I actually think Incognito could get cut with the switch to more of a zone blocking scheme but we will see. CK did a real good analysis of the new guy we brought in "Artis Hicks" and he strongly feels he could start at RG for us and do fairly well there. He has the experience in a zone blocking scheme.

Ireland has been extremely high on Murtha since we brought him here and apparantely Philbin is a fan also. Murtha's big thing is injuries but the talent is clearly there and the switch to the zone blocking scheme will help him tremendously. He could be the play at LG if we end up with Winston. I think they would prefer to keep Garner as the super utility man, the guy who can provide depth at all 5 spots on the line and they hope Jerry can transition but I'm not sure. I also wouldn't rule out Ray Feinga either. The Dolphins have been grooming a few guys the last few years and maybe it is time one of them stepped up. This is how good teams are built.

If I had to speculate on an OLine right now, it would be Long-Murtha-Pouncey-Hicks-Winston (if we got Winston). If we don't get Winston, I'd expect Murtha is the favorite to land at RT.

Both Jerry and Murtha seem to be upgrades over what we had at RT last year. Also dont forget that we may draft a RT in the early rounds of the upcoming draft that could come in and be our starter.

from what i remember murtha played well befor he got hurt. i see murta and jerry competing for the rt spot unless we draft a rt

Probably going to be addressed through the draft one way or another... wouldnt worry about murtha being our starting RT just yet

Omar Kelly loves Murtha and he really studies/knows line play. We should be more than all set at RT.

I hope we don't put "all our eggs in one basket" for Murtha
because he is as delicate as an egg...dude has started 4 games in 3 years

I think we can all trust Omar Kelly on this one. His specialty is line play, he loves it. If he says Murtha's good we have nothing to worry about. Is there anyone more thorough and knowledgable when it comes to evaluating line play? I think not!

My opinion on Murtha is that his strength is his athletic ability.

He is not the strongest lineman out there, but he moves real well.

That said, in Philbin's new offense, you need athletic linemen who can get to the perimeter and to the second level.

I wouldn't sleep on Murtha possibly starting at RT.

That is if we don't land Winston (which is the most likely case).

I can't believe folks let me get away with this, figured Hayden Fox would have been on it like white on rice.
