In what I think is a highly unusual off season for the patriots, it smacks of desperation. They have always built their teams on blue color unknowns who work hard and are not troublemakers? What they are doing is puzzling to me. It seems like they are pulling what the Dolphins used to do, only while having a winning record. Maybe they want to win one more then next year start to blow out the big salary guys. Just musing aloud I guess but would be interested in your thoughts?

well it looks to me as if belichek is hungry for another superbowl, as long as thier roster doens't flop in some way then i believe that have all the tools to

if they had good receivers last year they would have been in

No, I think that Bob Kraft is trying to buy a Super Bowl, having been shut out of the last two. Get ready for this year in and year out guys, as the new CBA separates the haves (green, that is) from the have nots (no new stadia or luxury boxes or small market teams)--still having trouble getting it? Think Major League Baseball....

I hope that's not the case Matt.

But if it is, the Dolphins are in fine shape.

They seem almost desperate to fill needs......wanted Donte Stallworth for the fins at first.....but he comes with baggage....NE will go into th season w/ high expextations from everyone with their recent pick-ups.....but I feel their chemistry will be missing!

Bill Bellicheck still trying to swallow their loss to the come from way behind Colts (notice how he treated Manning after the game....couldn't even congradulate him).:sidelol: :sidelol:

Pats will be beatable in 2007 & Cam & the Fins will show the way! Brady & Stallworth shall be no match for Porter-Taylor-Thomas!!

Its intresting, they are totally abandoning the formula that made them champs to begin with.

All these big names? Thomas and Stallworth were the only with "big" names but they are more than that they are solid players not just names. Most of you said Welker is at best a #3 receiver and Brady is getting old so all these big names comes down to those two. If you remember back in 03 we signed Harrison and Colvin during the FA period. I disagree with Big egos and A Thomas sounds like a real team player. Stallworths deal is bascilly a one year deal at this point so if he wants to sign on long term he'll have to drink the koolade. Neither of these guys display the ego that porter does so I think I'd look to home for the big egos.

I think that Stallworth is the only guy who doesn't seem to fit the Pioli-Belichick mold. Welker is exactly the kind of player that the Pats like, and if he comes through for them, then he'll be more than worth the 2nd and 7th picks they gave up. Thomas is a quality signing to keep the LBs solid, and you can't have too many good LBs in a 3-4 defense.

BTW, Dolfan81, the difference between Miami in 2006 ("every1 thought we had the tools 2 do it this season nd look wat happened") and the Pats in 2007 is that the Pats were within a few minutes of going to the Super Bowl in 2006 while the Fins didn't even make the playoffs in 2005.

On the other hand the Pat's were criticized after the 2005 season for not making many moves.....this year they are....let's face it I was pushing for Stallworth for the Fins....little jealousy there......still the Pats seem to be a little out of character (how long will Brady be productive,,,final push?).........that said>The Fins will continue to cause Brady problems....even more so w/ Porter....I am counting on Cam cranking up the offense! I live in Mass & really looking forward to the day when the Fins rule the division!!

FIrst wrong assumption is that big names = big contracts.
a.thomas cap hit is only 3.4 million for this year and stallworth is playing on a 1 yr contract. Kelly washington is signed up for 300,000k[training camp casuality either him or one of the other guys].wes walker is signed for 1.5 million.morris is less than 2 million.

the total cap space hit is 15 million for these players together.THe only contract which is big a.thomas which is totally front loaded. He already got 12 million of his gaureented 22 million.SO in term of cap space they are taking a very marginal hit meaning 2008 cap numbers are going to be around the same 30 million. Remember asante is franchised to next year he realizes 8 million back to the cap.

what is the point of the cap if you do not use it?cap management is that every year you should have cap to spend which is acheived.

Also, the due to thenew cba the cap space went up by 27% this year a reason 20 teams had 20 million cap space and 7 30 million or more.Next year we go back the 6% growth rate and this means their will not be excessive money in the pocket.Cap space cannot be carried over so this is a perfect year to sign front loaded contracts and get players for cheap for follwing years.

Funny Brady & Caldwell, Brown & Gabriel were a match in the first game last year!!

I think the only thing NE is getting ready to dismantle is the AFC east along with the rest of the NFL.
