Is opening against he Pats a good thing???

To be the best, you have to beat the best. I rather face them early, than late.

Good thread amidst the knee-jerking.

I generally think that with a new season&little tape that talent prevails. This is a little different because it's a division game and we're so familiar, but I still really like our chances because of where we're talented.

I like our DL against their run-game. I like our DBs (depth, especially) with some Sean covering their two TEs. Their balance may bother alot of defenses, but I think we can play them well straight-up. I'm hoping Henne has seen most of what they'll do over the past couple years; he has plenty of film on Belichek's confusing schemes. And i think we have good one-on-one mismatch guys--Bush and Marhsall--who they'll struggle with.

A division game is tough to open, especially in primetime. But winning it would be huge!

Playing the patriots is like going to the dentist. It sucks but you just need to grow a pair and get it over with.

Dolphins will win.

Definitely, I love it. We have everything to gain and nothing to lose in this game. After the horrific ending to last year this team will have an edge.

please tell me what edge we gained by getting beatdown last year. getting beat down early in the season did not motivate us for the second game. I just want the logic

Is this good for us?? Is this a way to catch a team off guard? At home, season opener, no one is clicking on all cylinders yet. Realistically, we should get beat. Do you like the idea of opening versus Pats or not?? Discuss!!!
Why should we assume we will get beat? The Pats have what? Brady and Ocho? Give our guys some credit, we have a young and extremely talented defense that will give Brady fits. We have some very good playmakers on offense, if we can just protect Henne he should be able to damage the Pats with the weapons we have this year. Last year we should have beaten them at home had we not had a ST meltdown. I think this team is more than capable of beating NE in week 1. Whether they come out ready is up to Sparano and co.

we should have beat them? hell we scored 14 pts.Thye have much more than Brady and ocho. Brady was 19 of 24 in that game and 10 of 16 in the second game had like a 110 qb rating versus us last year so not so sure we will give him fits

Yes, I do like opening against them than a few weeks into the season. It will be difficult to game plan 100% against the offense because there is no tape to study. You can study the preseason games, but they are not showing everything. If Miami is going to be able to beat the Pats, I think their best chance is at home for the first game of the season. It will be a tough game, but Miami has a good chance of winning.

It seems they are at their best against the Pats when they are able to throw things at them that BB does not expect.

will be a tuff game. I dont know what to expect...but what a statement it would be if we can pull that off on the huge stage that is opening week MNF @HOME against the PATS!!!!!

its not the same defense of the 2010 pats either. this is the same offense that scored like 80 points on us last year with prob some new weapons.

Yes it is. The defense is their weakness. I don't buy all the hype the Haynesworth acquisition got them. He hasn't been practicing and that most likely has to do with conditioning. Ellis is a nice pick up but he is getting older, plus, they have to dell with Reggie Bush. I know Daboll will attack any umbrella coverage Henne sees.

They scored 80 points for two reasons. Henne made Patrick Chung and Rob Ninkovich look like Pro Bowlers the first game and the team quit in the second.

last i checked all these players with no heart that quit in the last game were still here . Our defense didnt stop them in either game. Their defense got much better towards the end of the year and it will be a better defense. Over the last 5 games that defense held 4 teams to 7 points or less and gave up an average of like 9 points a game. so im not sure their defense is as bad as u think and Im not talking about because they aquired Haynesworth.

It's not ideal to open against the Patriots, especially on Monday Night Football. It's like starting the season with a playoff game. The Dolphins really need to put on a good performance in that game if they can't win. They can't back down and they have to keep it close. If they let the Patriots abuse them on opening day in front of national media attention, it will be a long season for them and us. But if they play well and contend, even if they lose, there could still be hope.

i dont mind opening against the patriots but i wanted to do it on sunday at 1.

If you're going to open the season with a brand new offense that nobody has much tape on, might as well open against the best team in your division.
