Is our O-Line improved?

The upside is an OL that stays healthy and is playing its best football, at a totally adequate level, in Nov-Dec.

There is big risk. Daniels may not be ready. Eichenberg may start early. Daniels still needs to adjust to the scheme anyway. Ajax may get hurt again. JS is a rookie and may need to learn his job.

When Aaron Brewer is your anchor, well, it says something.

That said, if nobody gets hurt, you should be solid enough to be totally adequate in the operation of the offense.
 
If they stay healthy, and obviously thats a big if with 2 guys coming off season ending surgeries, then depending on how fast Patrick Paul and Savaii acclimate to the pros then I'd say we would have an average line at worst, and a very good line, not great, at its best.

It can become a great line with a couple years of playing together, but even an average line would be a giant improvement on what we've had the past few years.

I'm not sure about very good but it should be better than last year as Jones and Eichenberg really were bottom of the barrel guards.

I'm concerned about Paul but if the line can run block well it should mean the quick passing game will be back and I'm wondering how many games Ajax will miss this season, probably anywhere between 4-6 would be my guess.

If they can't run block then it's going to be a long season and Paul might struggle.
 
It should be significantly better at guard with Daniels and Savaiinaea.

Paul is a downgrade from Armstead, but could still turn out to be a plus left tackle. Armstead was just so good, when healthy.

Depth could be an issue. Who backs up Brewer, as one example. But overall I think the offensive line is better on paper.
 
If ALL are healthy then you have:

Ajax - great against run, average against pass (overall top15 RT)

Savaii - rookie, expected to be good against run, above average against pass (unknown, hopefully top40 OG)

Brewer - average to above average across the board (overall top10 C)

Daniels - average to above average across the board (overall top20 OG)

Patrick Paul - somewhat unknown, should hopefully be good against run, and hopefully average against the pass (unknown, hopefully top20 LT)

So IF all are healthy AND the rookie and PP both are at least solid, you have a 7th-17th ranked OL here, should be the best we’ve had in a decade.

I think Paul held his own last year, especially not knowing if he would be playing (usually) until late in the week or even during a game. He definitely benefitted from taking all the practice reps in '24, I'm looking forward to the continuity that having the same five practicing and playing together (hopefully) provides. A large helping of good fortune injury-wise goes without saying.
