Where is the QB coach option??? Don't see him coming back here with Henne, White and a 5th rounder traded away for Thigpen unless we could get that 5th back. I would like to see him come back as a QB coach.

I voted "YES" as a backup to Henne (& Thigpen), but that's with one caveat: Pat White's position is changed from QB to something else, or he's cut/traded. Not saying he will be, but we will not keep four QBs.

Anyone who remembers the early years of the Marino Era remembers that when Dan went to the sideline to talk anything over, it was always with Shula ~and~ Don Strock. Pennington would be invaluable in a similar roll.

I was listening to WQAM and they asked this question during an interview with him around 6:30pm after I left work today.

He said that there was a part of him that's loyal and that he knew he was wanted here to help turn the franchise around - how much his family enjoyed being down here, and another part that is the competitor which wants to lead a team.

To me, I personally think that if he gets an opportunity to be a starter somewhere else he will go, he should get the opportunity.

The part of the print interview I read that really impressed me even more than I already was with him, was when he said [basically] "I'm speaking as if there will be other opportunities. There might not be any." Pretty damn down to earth--the anti-Porter if you will.

I agree he'd strongly consider another starting gig, but I don't see him leaving to take a backup roll somewhere else. The money wouldn't be any better, and he has the respect of this organization from top to bottom. That's a lot to give up to carry a clipboard for a team wearing a different jersey for the same dough.

If he and/or his family hated South Florida (like the Ex-Coach Who Will Not Be Named) then, yeah, I could see him taking off for a similar backup job, but nothing I've heard or read indicates that's the case with him. I think he'll be back. Parcells is very loyal, too. :)

He's indicated that when he retires, he wants to coach high school ball in West Virginia. Those kids will be fortunate as hell to get him.

I heard the interview and what I took from it is that if it is not a team that is at least decent where he can start, he will be back. He stated even getting a chance to start elsewhere will present a tough decision for him to make.

Good to know. If he didn't feel the urge to do that right away, a 5-10 year foray into assistant coaching with the Fins would give him experience leading from the other side of the clipboard. He'd run some meetings and be in charge of some administrative functions for the area he was assisting in... all of which would help him become a better HS coach. I hope that happens for him.

I agree, I've heard this as well. I was thinking he may go home to Tennessee to do something like this too.

Just wondering why some here think he will retire?

He won't know for months how realistic a comeback attempt is. When he gets the word from the docs about how he's healed to that point, he'll have to do some soul searching on his own and with his family about the path he wants to take.

nobody wants to retire because their arm got ripped off... why not retire with some semblance of mobility left in it

If he feels he has time left in him to have another go at it, then be all means he should. He's had 3 shoulder surgeries, but he said himself, he had this one this time so that what you stated doesn't happen.

I'd like to think Pennington would be a backup with us but I can't because it seems fairly obvious another team will look to sign him as a starter. He showed too much with us and there's a bunch of teams who he'd be an upgrade for.

Sadly, I dot think he will.

Henne-obviously the starter
Thigpen-young backup with solid experience that can move an offense
White-the ongoing experiment...ugh

Ideally, Penny joins the coaching staff this offseason. But he's way too competitive. He'll try and come back again, and I wish him ALL the luck in the world.
