is philbin the smartest head coach miamis had since jj?

Its funny listening to you guys talk about how you could have told someone that Sparano and Cameron were idiots day 1, yet you all were predicting playoffs and built them up when you got them. I remember you guys saying how Sparano is a real HC. And talking up Cameron as a offensive wiz when he got there. But now Philbin is the smartest HC you have had, yet you haven't seen him coach a single game yet.
the day we got cameron, I'll say just about everyone supported him, esp after the offensive juggernaut he'd built in san diego. find me someone who didn't believe. Now... the cracks in that armor showed through pretty quick. happened about the time he put ronnie brown on special teams as a kick returner.

Sparano... there were some who raised eyebrows and questioned his experience and the faults of allowing a line coach to become a head coach. but most of us were like... well it parcels he's rebuilt more than one team. The problem with that is... the teams he rebuilt he also coached at the time. still 11-5 after so many losing seasons felt good. then the string of 0-x to begin a season started.

I like Philbin, but also liked Sparano when he started

Sparano's lack of experience as a top coach (meaning more than a position coach) really showed. Not just in coaching, but he was WAY too hesitant to make changes to the coaching staff (He was gonna invite Henning back last year, but Dan said it would be better for everybody to just move on). I also feel that he really didn't do a good job working with Parcells and Ireland on putting a team together. What I mean by that is a draft should be a team effort between the GM, Head Coach, and Lead Scout.. or some system like that. While the GM will have final say, it's his job to find players that fit what the Coach and his assistants want to do. Even after 4 years, looking at drafts with Tony as HC, I really don't see Ireland/Parcells drafting for a system. On the flip side, in one draft with Philbin, through both picks made and players looked at, I can see what he and Sherman want to do on offense and what Coyle wants to do on defense.

Sban was pretty damn smart... smart enough to pick a job where he made as much money for less work and pressure...
