Who the hell is making the argument that tds, fgs, and safeties don't matter?
Try staying on topic. If you really think yardage is meaningless, I guess I should just stop wasting my time trying to point out what should be fairly obvious. There is a strong correlation between yardage allowed and points allowed. The same goes with yardage gained and points scored.

In both examples you give, you're conveniently leaving out the other side of the ball for both teams. When was the last time any team made the playoffs after finishing the regular season in the bottom third of the league in both Defensive and Offensive yardage?

As far as our D, we're 8th in points allowed and 14th in yards per play.
Also, if you combine the records of the top 10 scoring D's in the NFL, the record is 24-6 with only one of those teams having a losing record (Panthers), and half the teams are unbeaten. So that no one has to add on a Thursday, that's 5 teams at 3-0, 5 teams at 2-1, and one team at 1-2. There is still a lot of room for improvement, but we're doing most of the essential well.
If our team puts up 30 points a game and only 50 yards I don't care how they got it done. If the other team is kicking field goes then they are giving up 4 points every time we score a TD. Our D as others pointed out is 8th in allowing points. What does that have to do with your point if we give up 70 yards and 3 points then go and use 40 yards or less to score a TD. Ding Ding Ding we are up by 4 points and the other team has to drive 70/60 or whatever three times just to get a two point lead. Now is that on point enough to say that yards can be important if you are not scoring or protecting the endzone or do you need me to draw it next time.
Total yardage stats for defense and offense arent nearly as important as scoring stats of which we are 11th in scoring offense (PF) and 8th in scoring defense (PA) . This, coupled with our 50% efficiency rating on 3rd downs, +2 TO diff, and 87.50% redzone efficiency (1st in NFL) are the reason why we are 3-0. Our being 3-0 has very little to do with the overall rankings you posted above. If we keep these stats up, garuanteed we will go deep in the playoffs. Doesnt really mean much if you drive up and down the field but cant score points.
I understand why you are concerned though. As of a couple years ago, I put most of the emphasis on yardage stats too. Now the first stat I look at when I want to know where we rank are the scoring stats.
